Hi Brandon, Thank you. I hope I'm not shy about asking questions.
The reason why Sherry is here is;... I want to do some collaborating with my friends. I want to learn how to use a software that is good for recording vocals. I'm not in a hurry. Right now I think I sound muffled and very bass-y....which it doesn't help to be alto....This is what I sound like now...this site is for fun....and for practicing my vocals.
SingSnap | Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye by sherrykay

this is what I have....

*windows xp home edition

*Creative Technology Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS Platinum Pro(which I NOW know is not good for vocals.... my mic sounds very saturated when singing high notes.....

*Samson C01 Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone
*PreSonus TubePre Single Channel Microphone Preamp with VU Meter
(buying these two product I thought would help with the saturated sound coming from the mic) which it did not.....

*Behringer XENYX 1002FX Mixer - 10
(So I thought I would by this MIXER and it would help the saturated sound
I think I am on the right track but now.... I'm being told that your sound card is the problem.......eeks.. It's a FIXED SOUND CARD...so now I buy...

*M-Audio Delta 1010 LT PCI Digital Audio Computer Interface
(but this card is very hard to understand....and you have to be a professional to understand how to use it.....my opinion for beginners.
I can't even get sound out of it.....

So Sherry wants a clearer sound and wants to do some collaborations with friends....

Yeah, you've got a bunch of 400Hz stuff in there and not much definition in the upper midrange and highs. This does happen even to me sometimes but the style of reverb is really making the problem worse.

I'd use way more predelay on the reverb and that'll clear up the vocals significantly.

The mic is clearly off axis. I do this to avoid harshness sometimes, but if the vocals are too dark, you want to sing directly into the capsule and not at an angle. The distance you are singing at appears good.

If you have other mics, I'd try them. If you don't, the next step is EQ. You have to be very careful here because the EQ that fixes one word may ruin another. So I'd start with controlling the reverb and boosting the predelay.

That's because 95% of the internet world sensationalizes gear to death. Check this out:

Yeah, the SoundBlaster stuff is not what I would call ideal for home recording, but there people who have used it with impressive results. I have a feeling that you are sending too much signal into it when you dig in a bit. I'd start by turning down your preamp and see if that corrects the problem.

What kind of compression settings are using for your voice?

I had 2 Delta 1010s back in the day and they were excellent. There is a bit of a learning curve with them, but it's generally not to bad. If you still have it, I would use it for sure. We can help you get it to work. What recording software are you using?

Yup, I'll agree I have something When you are trying to sing with a "mono sound" and then place stereo vocals in the mix..lol...yup it's going to sound crazy....trust me, I hate it.....but once again have NO clue as to what I'm
doing

"More predelay on the reverb" ok, this is where I tell you that I don't think I have THAT feature...lol...I do use CREATIVE STUDIO WAVE for a software and it's really easy....I THINK?. IT came with the sound card...lol. But once again have NO clue as to what I'm doing. I need to work with I guess, beginner's stuff and I am told (at where I want to collaborate) to use this, I can try it for free SOFTWARE

REAPER | About

so I guess I can try it.

What do you suggest I learn first? I mean, for a beginner I feel totally lost here..

Did you write that book for the beginner or intermediate studio producer? (that's my title)...lol....Just curious....I was looking at all the titles people wanted to give it...and I was thinking.....How can anyone give a title to something they haven't read yet? Or maybe they have?.......... I don't know.....again just curious....
Is it for beginners? or intermediate to advanced people? I see you as an advanced person. I'm not sure WHO you are writing for?....(hopefully me, the beginner who knows nothing....haha). hint hint....

I want it NOW to work...la la la la. lol.

Well, when singing on video (for fun or practicing vocals) it is hard to show yourself and try to sing too.....lol....

but if I was in studio I would not do this....You are right.

ok,... is EQ on a Software or a soundcard? See, I am the nightmare or the next book you WILL write.....hehe
I think I've seen EQ in the soundcard.... but now that I have the m-audio delta 1010lt in the computer...the creative soundblaster is acting weird....and I have reloaded soundblaster but it only wants to go 60% then gives me a error....lol
LOVELY....so that feature is useless....just as well I guess....

always when recording it never USED THAT FEATURE...I would set it up and then listen to the recording but it never set the EQ in place in the recording...

I have and old Realistic mic...that's almost my age....but like a said, singing into it sometimes brings crackle and pops.
I don't mind working on having a great sound...but i don't need to get overwhelmed AND QUIT. I need to be in with the beginners.
Do you have a beginners section?

This is why it's so hard to buy anything.....problems problems problems....especially in the eyes of a beginner. There never seems to be a positive note. You are always scared to buy...big money or little money when buying..It seems that you have failed....I hope that I can find someone to say, Sherry this is what you need....buy it....learning it.....then use it....
It sounds simple but I'm sure it's NOT.....but at least I would be up and running with sound and learning the software...at least i think I would.

The creative Soundblaster is for games and movies NOT for singing....I have clearly made my opinion on it....and I KNOW NOTHING about STUDIO RECORDING. I do agree with you. (It's worked my nerves for years now) Even though I'm sure someone can bring impressive results with it....but I am truly over this card. I tolerate it to have fun.

"Compression Settings?" huh?...Yes, Sherry thinks she knows what you are talking about...Do you mean what file type? Yes, I see ya laughing...lol.
but I have NO clue...Do you want to help the helpless? (joking)....lol.......The way I see this you have to work with humor here....YES,.. LAUGH AT YOURSELF...LOL. So everyone may laugh too...lol. Best medicine for those who don't know what the hell they are doing....lol.

I haven't gotten rid of it.... yet....but I would like to know if we are talking about the some one?

This is the one I have:

Buy M-Audio Delta 1010 LT PCI Digital Audio System online at Musician's Friend

This is not the one I have:

Buy M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI Digital Audio System online at Musician's Friend

Software; I am sure this sound card came with software.... but I am not sure either.......Does this get the sound card working?
Well, I'm done for NOW....

Thank You Brandon,
I am hopeful
Sherry
