I am new to this Site.I have question,I am using delta audiophile 2496 sound card ,but i don't have any external mixers or pre amps.But i am planning to buy.Actually i am a composer and music teacher.please suggest me which is better preamp or mixer ?

It depends on what you are doing. The Audiophile 2496 is a little stripped, but it is a low latency audio interface.

The chain goes like this:
mic > microphone preamp > analog to digital computer > computer

So getting signal into your M-Audio 2496 won't matter if you go with a standalone preamp or a mixer. However, it's the getting audio out that I'm interested in. If there is a volume control or simple method to connecting to headphones, the 2496 would be great. However, if there is not, a mixer may be great for this.
