Greetings from Nashville
Hello Group,
Just checking in from Nashville, TN. This is my first forum. I'm sure my wife will think I have a sweetie online (that's how we met). Nonetheless, I'm just a struggling singer/songwriter with a very humble recording setup. I recently lost a very good job and decided to turn this negative into a positive by recording and copyrighting about 30 original tunes. Well, I'm here to learn because my recording knowledge is very limited.
I recently bought a Fostex MR16 and I use a MXL V67 for recording voice and acoustic guitar. So far . . . I really like the results. My only preamp is an old ART Tube MP. I know $30.00 is a huge investment in preamps LOL but hey . . . I said I was a recording babe. It actually doesn't sound bad compared to going straight to the Foxtex. There's a bit of hum but it's much ****er and in your face. I'm not even messing with EQ but rather trying to get the sound right before I record it rather than fixing it later. I already like your forum because I was getting sucked into the preamp black hole and one or your articles has slowed down the fever. I've been looking at the RNP and MPA as a possible next step but now I'm thinking maybe I should hold. My purpose and goal in this is to have an environment that I can make good quality demos for my music. I may eventually record some session players to boost my demos a bit.
Oh, my wife got me out of the living room with the hardwood floors. Just to show how naive I am, I liked recording down there because it always sounded so good when I played my acoustic and sang live down there. Well, I've been booted to the entertainment room with carpeted floors, drywall and several soft pieces of furniture. There are 3 good sized windows with Plantation type blinds. I'm thinking I should keep them shut.
I would love to get suggestions from some of you all. I've always felt that the best way to be successful is to find those who already are and learn from them. Again, my knowledge is very limited but I've been recording in some form or another since college. I'm just not trained in the audio arts.
Best Regards,
JRockin04
