Just here to peruse. I'm not in a band, but I play guitar (and bass now too, I guess) and write songs at home, recording little demos on my PC. I used to play in a couple bands when I was 15-22 years old, but life got in the way, now it is pretty much just a hobby, although if I ever got very good at writing songs, I would love to do it professionally, but I'd also like to walk on Mars. Big fan of the Who, Pete Townshend's solo stuff, all the classic rock, blues (esp buddy guy/bb king/albert king style), bit of wes montgomery records, and some wacky stuff, like P-funk and James Brown. I like Motown sound. Equipment wise, a strat (1991 USA Standard), a cheap bass I recently picked up (squire), a fender gemini II acoustic/electric, a secondhand 12 channel mixer, SM57 for everything, Leafdrums for the drum loops, run into soundcard on a fairly decent computer. As of late I mic my little practice amp for doing the electrics, I prefer micing the acoustic about 6-8 inches from the 10th or 12th fret area (not that anyone plays sitting completely still). I (try to) sing via the 57 as well, but haven't yet bought a wind screen. I record the demos on the free Kristal Audio Engine, and use mostly luxonix 1310, glaceverb, and just began screwing around with classic master limiter (not my specialty). My music/computer room is about 10x12 feet box, it has built in background noise thanks to the ouside of the window A/C unit in the next room, and is perpetually 90 degrees. Nice to be on board with all you pros.

I have an X-FI Xtreme Gamer (for gaming.. duh) that is in there also, but I always have issues getting it to work with the music, whether it is the levels, noise, getting Kristal to recognize it, drivers etc. So I just use the other one. I will prob pick up a USB interface at some point, one of those little M-audio ones, as I only record 1 track at a time, maybe someday 2 at once.

Welcome to the forum. I'd love to hear your work. Can you post a tune in RecordingReviews? Brandon

Sure. I picked up a windscreen the other day, so that problem is solved. The substitute recording I posted isn't a very good representation of how my songs come out. I'll post something new.
