Hello there, I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself and ask some questions. I am a professional musician but have been away from the recording part of the business and concentrating mostly on live playing and freelancing.
The last time I worked in a Home Studio envoronment was in the late 80's early 90's. After all these years I have decided to get back to what I really love, that is creating music instead of simply performing other people's music. I am in the process of trying to figure out if I should work with a complete PC(DAW) environment or go with dedicated hardware such as a Digital Multitrack module setup. I have been working with PC's for many years but I have also witnessed PC crashes in the middle of recording a session or simply listening to play back. I am amazed at the power of computers and their possiblilities but my main issue is reliablilty. Any suggestions and insight would be appreciated. Thanks |

So while reliability can be an issue, I'm of the opinion that a modern computer is going to do pretty well with audio. Most crashes occur when the bugs haven't been worked out of a system or if a person is simply pushing a computer too hard. Other than that, most problems I deal with are on the hardware end. This is fairly rare. Just in case, I have a system in place for backing up my operating system in a matter of minutes. Create A Perfect Backup Of Your Windows Hard Drive | Home Recording Blog Brandon

What do you think about 64 bit motherboards? Is the software such as CUBASE compatible or will there be all kinds of bugs. I really want to build a solid machine. Any thoughts?
Thanks. |

I'm not sure about the 64 bit thing. I don't know much about it. My rig is an Athlon 64 and I run Cubase SX 3 without any problems. Does that answer your question?
