Default The End of Stand-alones?

Hello folks
I've been using and enjoying the Korg D1600 standalone recorder since it came out maybe 8 years ago. 'Cos portability is my No 1 requirement.

But now my faithful machine is getting kinda long in the tooth, and I look around only to find myself totally disenfranchised! Korg, Roland, Akai and the rest have all pulled out of higher-end stand-alones. I guess they fell on their face 'cos demand couldn't keep up with so many competing models (and new revisions every few months). So now they've ALL discontinued anything above basic "guitarists' overdubbers"!!

This is true at least in the UK, where the only possibilities now are Tascam's 2488 (flimsy and unreliable) and Yamaha's AW1600 (actually only 8 tracks for decent quality). And neither even offers snapshot automation.
Is this the end of my (35 year) mobile recording career?
