Default Cubase le....clipping issue when importing mp3.

Hi,
I have cubase le and when I try to import a mp3 file from my hard drive it clips VERY bad (that static sound)..I can not figure out how to adjust the level of the mp3 when I am importing. Is there a level in the Cubase LE that I can adjust? Is there something in my computer that I can adjust? I am pulling my hair out.....I tried using different audio players to see if it helps, but it still imports really hot.....I called Steinberg and waited on the phone for over 2 hours....Can someone please help me. I also use the Prosonas Firepod, if that helps at all.

Are you positive the track is clipping? Could this be an issue of this: Home Recording Computers: Clicks, Pops, and Latency

If you aren't doing any processing to the track and it is a single track, that clipping is in that mp3 audio file. If that's the case, there is nothing you can do to remove it.

You can find out for sure if you are clipping in Cubase by looking at the meters. Do they ever go over 0?

it's ok if they go over since the channel is floating point nomenclature. chek ur visual adjustments. assign a limiter on the 2buss -master buss. monitoring without the limiter can leave the output vulnerable to overs -which do distort. welcome to da forums

...you can change the mp3's levels by using the "gain" processor from the toolbar -after it's been imported... or you could assign an insert (stereo or mono)limiter to the track.

I am recording backing tracks in a very small Recording Studio, and the owner uses CUBASE. I have asked him if it is possible to import MP3 files into CUBASE but he says he doesn't know how to do this. Can anybody else advise please?

Much appreciated.

go to the toolbar and find "import audio" and use the system browser to locate your mp3 and import.

Thanks for the info. It sounds so simple, I'm surprised my mate didn't know.
