I purchased a Inspire 1394 that came with Cubase LE. I was using it on my very slow old laptop and it was okay but "popped alot." So, someone said you need a new faster computer. So, I got one. I had to switch to an express card because that is what my new Dell took. Now all I get is a TON of feedback/scratching over the entire recording and you can barely here any of the guitar or vocals b/c the scratching is so loud. I have played with all the Insprire nobs and no change. Help please. I am using Windows Vista.

We get the same feedback/scratching. Audacity did not change anything. COmputer is Dell Vostro 1000. 2gb ram. using vista. worked much better on older and slower computer using vista. Using Express card.

Hi. Well it would appear that there is something quite fundemental wrong. Suggest you go to the presonus website and read the FAQ "What hardware is incompatible with my PreSonus Interface?" Check that the drivers are installed properly. Don'tknow Vista, but in XP you look in Device manager for yellow ! marks. If in doubt uninstall and download the latest Vista compatible drivers which are on that website. Make sure the drivers for the express 1394 card are installed properly and that the chipset it uses is not NEC (as FAQ) but preferably Texas Instruments (TI) with drivers by Microsoft. If none of this helps, if you post again, can you describe what "I get is a TON of feedback/scratching over the entire recording" in a bit more detail Last edited by hugo_zair; 11-24-2008 at 11:07 AM. |

According to Cubase LE's User Manual and Steinberg's website, Vista is NOT listed as a supported OS for Cubase LE. A friend of mine even contacted Steinberg Tech Support and they confirmed this. My advice is to get rid of Vista; its probably the worst excuse for an OS ever created, especially for audio processing. XP has proven to be a stable platform over and over.

My opinion is that xp OS is master OS for music production. I tried with Vista, but many progs still haven t remounted their drivers compatibility for new OS. Cheers! |

I have 2 "inspire" units that both work fine on my XP driven laptop. With Vista on my desktop, the cackle was horrendous, and it would only work for 30 seconds. Strangely, if I flipped sample rates it would work again, but only for a short time again. I installed Windows 7 evaluation (which fixed a HEAP of other problems). The cackle is still there in brute force, but it does keep working. Small consellation. My desktop is top spec Q9550 4g ddr3 Raptor. It's driving me nuts! Anyone else with this problem? Or even better, a solution? PS. I run both Cubase SX3 & Adobe Audition. Last edited by OzStrat; 09-22-2009 at 12:07 AM. |
