Default Want Amazing Sound Quality? Quit Trying!

I have a new theory:The only way to achieve extreme "quality" or "fidelity" is to pretty much forget about quality and fidelity and go for maximum creativity. When you go intoa new r...

Indeed. We can focus so much on building and equipping our home studios (which in most cases will never be Mutt Lange's studio), and get off track to the real purpose of it all - creating music.

Who's more successful in the end? The guy with the $10,000 of equipment who doesn't know how to use it, to the guy who puts out song after song using $2000 equipment, but knows it inside out?

A good song is a good song, no matter what the mix sounds like. As I've mentioned before on the forums, if it's that good a song, it can be taken to the big boys to record it professionally. No need to get our undies in a bunch trying to recreate it at home.

PS. Keep in mind, though, there are probably quite a few home recordings that sound pretty awesome.

I'm talking about the big boys. This IS how they do it! Sure, they have their fancy gear which makes about a 1% difference. What makes the big boys BIG is their mentality. They are looking to create the most intense music possible. When this is your goal, you will put your brain in "badass mode" and it will find the way to get what you are looking for.

When you put your brain in "MUST-GET-MEGA-SOUND-QUALITY-MODE" (I'm talking like a robot in case you couldn't tell) you turn your brain off and you end up sounding like shit.
