Default Tiny Studio

Hello there,

I'm creating a tiny studio to sit in my girlfriends living room so I can record
there. She wasn't really going for the idea of me using a room dedicated to
recording so what i've come up with is.

An m-audio oxygen keyboard 25 keys.
An akai mpc 500
A roland m-vs1 vintage keys sound module
and some headphones.

I have a wierd feeling it's going to be more productive than my proper
studio...

As for bad advise on relationships you have come to the right place. Now that you have your "foot in the door/living room" You can bring in additional gear "temporarily" to track those other much needed parts. Be patient and and always clean up after yourself. Well at least for a while.

Kidding aside I have a "small studio" I bring camping and I do find it way more productive for writing.

Camping! that would be unreal. I can run the midi controller and akai mpc on batteries...

I tell you when you have nothing demanding your attention and you can write as long as you want it is truly inspirational. Especially with no tech stuff in the way.

hahahahahahahahahahaha. What a ludicrous thing that I said. Reality is relative I guess. I bring a fostex br1180, fender strat (Mexi, it can get close to camp fire ashes), fender side kick amp, sm 57, bass, yamaha keyboard and a drumkat midi controller for drums. This is stored neatly in the "living room" of the 33ft trailer that has a generator and backup battery packs for camping with out hook ups. Ahhhhh I can feel the nature and love roughing it in my "no tech" world.

Why not hang a large poster of trees and mountains in your studio and sleep there. It's about the same thing.

Sorry to redirect your thread for a moment here tiberius, but this talk of camping and recording equipment brings me to an anecdote.

I'm even more of a purist than paul999 when I camp. I bring along an acoustic guitar and a hand-held cassette recorder. These two pieces of 'equipment' have been my best songwriting partners.

I was once commissioned to write two original songs for a theater company's production of an original musical. I was given the script and the lyrics for the two songs, as well as a deadline. My job was to write original music to these lyrics in the context of the story.

I screwed around at home unsuccessfully trying to write, but I was constantly distracted (insert girlfriend story here), so I decided to embark on a solo fishing trip into the mountains for two days in order to get away and recharge my mind. My only tools were a fly fishing rod, a $200 Samick acoustic guitar, and a Realistic micro-cassette recorder from circa 1990.

An unexpected rainstorm forced me back into my tent where I was compelled by boredom to sit down and compose. I managed to cultivate the embryonic forms of both commissioned songs that day. I was able to play back the hand-held tapes and they were enough to spark my fully-realized multitrack version once I got home.

Tiberius, I assume that you are using your proposed "tiny studio" as a writing tool only. There is much to be said about the advantages of these 'notebook' studios.

Wow. I'm coming camping with your family! LOL

Seriously though, Tiberius, you have time for a girlfriend?!?! (Okay, that wasn't so serious, LOL)
