Default In Search of an Engineer Mentor

Though these sorts of forums are great as a resource of information, I find that I am a more "hands-on" student. As of right now, I'm trying to build up a home studio (though apartment life and lack of funds makes it difficult) and I was curious if there were any Engineers out there willing to take on someone as a student.

Of course, with that in mind, always willing to work for free... need that toilet scrubbed? :P Anything that needs to be done.

At the moment, I do work full-time and take a few classes, but my passion lies within music. I'm outside Atlanta, GA right now. Reaching out for whomever willing to help out.

Thanks!

How's the home studio coming, what gear have you picked up so far?

I've basically just started... but my mic is a MXL V63M Condenser (tryin to get my dynamic - unsure as of what just yet) and a 4 track Belkin. Currently, I've been tooling around with Sonar 6 LE but my poor PC is strugglin with it. Saving up for my MacBook Pro at the moment mostly. I've also been trying to figure out a good, cost-worthy way of building up a sound booth to help drown out the apartment "noise" around me. All in due time I suppose :P

I would suggest the SM57 for your dynamic. More than half of us here own one and would replace it if it ever broke, which would take a nuclear bomb.

If I were you, I'd sell the Belkin and get yourself an audio interface. Mixers are unnessesary and you're stuck recording at 16/44.1. There is an interface wizard on the home page to help you decide what is best for you.

MacBook Pro huh? That's a good computer, but for half of what you'd spend on that you could build an i7 quadcore PC that would leave it in the dust. With the money you save you could get a nice pair of monitors and build yourself a vocal booth. There's nothing wrong with the MacBook, it's a sweet machine, but it could set you back a while when it comes to your purchasing your list of essentials.
