Default MIDI Drum Sample Programming: Perfection Doesn’t Work

This is the best illustration that I've ever heard for the argument that mathematics and drum intensity have nothing in common. MIDI drum programming requires a human touch for maximum intensity that you can't find in the quantize button.

This introduction is misleading. It might require a human mind, but doesn't require a human touch, and can be thought of mathematically if you want. Pushing and pulling are groove elements, but they can be fixed in position (a few ticks ahead, a few ticks behind... whatever the groove requires). You can quantize the shit out of your track and still make it groove.

Yeah, without context I guess you are right. I just wrote a section in my recording book about the rigid, perfect, math side of the brain verse the "fuck it", free form side of the brain. If you look at it in this 2 dimensional approach, my description makes sense, but I think I'll change it.
