Default I think I'm gonna go insane

So I'm doing Music Tech at my school's sixth form, not too difficult. Our first project, to do during free periods, is to cover record a song 2-4 mins long, and make it sound like the original as best as possible. I chose Breakfast at Tiffany's, because it was my Uncle's favourite song, he passed away in February and I wanted to record it for him.

Anyway, no one in my group helps me. They KNOW I can record already so they resent me for it - they never help me even when I ask, even if it's to only press the record button when I say. So I explained this to my teacher, who then tells me the whole class will help me work on it on Monday's lesson (which I just had).

But no, we set up the drum kit and get it half miced, and before we can do a soundcheck the drummer and bassist start messing about and jamming, not letting me test the levels and edit etc. So after I blow my lid and tell em to stop it and we gotta hurry (remember the kits only half miced) I look at my watch and we've got 10 mins left, which meant they all left and I had to pack it away on my own. All they did the entire time during tracking was rip the p*ss out of me as well, making jokes such as "You're Gay you fag"; original I know. Hurtful? No. Annoying as hell? Yes.

So I'm thinking of quitting music technology based on the fact of the people in the class, the crap equiptment we have (sonotronics condencers and a few shures, and all the mic stands dont even hold in place, they just slide, which is the cause of my now blood blistered finger), and also my inability to complete my coursework which is 80% of the final mark for AS because some pricks just won't help me. They also say they dont like me cosa you can't like Elliot Minor nd Guns n Roses at the same time.

Argh

End rant.

I'm sure they resent you for more than because you can record.
Being a tattletale will not win support from your peers.
Seeing you blow your lid is more fun than helping.
Annoying you is almost as much fun as seeing you blow your lid.
Getting you to quit is the most fun of all.
People are dicks. Grow accustomed to the idea.
Lead, follow or get out of the way.

I didn't blow my lid in the sense of going insane I went "Oh FFS can we get on we have 10 mins, please?".

I wasn't a tattle tale, my teacher say I was struggling with it on my own and asked me to be honest and talk to him about it.

It never helps to quit - no matter how tough things get. As far as crap equipment, don't let that bother you, there's lots of neat music made on stupid gear, that's what separates the men from the boys. You have to be creative and take problem solving as a challenge. There is a cool book "Guerilla Recording" that you might try to pick up somewhere.

It soundslike your teacher knows wht's going on. I wouldn't sweat it. What's the worst that can happen? Grades? Who cares? The point is to learn not compete.

But I'm not learning. All we're doing is teaching ourselves Reason, pissing about with re arranging songs in Cubase and listening to songs and observing the instrumentation. We learn nothing of phase, noise floor, impedance, transformers etc.

i guess it depends on what your trying to get out of it, if your trying to finish to get the piece of paper that says you finished than stick with it. if your trying to learn things that you don't already know about recording, and your really sure that you're not going to there, then save the money and quit, put the time into recording on your own and learning as you go.

Why are you wasting time doing this then? Honestly, you'll learn more in an economics class or in wood shop where you don't already know the answers. Trust me, being a god among insects is REALLY pointless once you leave school, because you're still an insect in the real world.
