Default Is it the style..

I know a guy that writes hard rock songs(songs out of hate that are basically the screamo crap) and people say that hes really good but I've read it and a five year old could write better stuff to me... Is it were I wwrite country/pop and maybe some rock and the song tells a story... He writes in like 5 minutes were as I take atleast an hour(on a good day) to write a rough draft then a couple of weeks revising...
Anyway another thing that I need to opt. in I guess is that hes modeling after motley crue and such which the lyrics ok but its a lot of the music...

I'm not putting out a hate towards screamo or hard rock I'm just wondering why do I have the opposite view... Also i don't like hearing quote "I'm going to make the song as dirty as I can" to me thats not a song a song tells a story.... I know I'm probably going to have a lot of people to oppose me... please feel free.. I feel that yes cussing should be in a song because its so much emotion packed into one word but every other word just ticks me off

Actually Dude, I Pretty Much Agree With You. Cussing loses its impact if used 2 much...but if u just use a word or a few, then that can really take a song to another level emotionally. Jmho.

Why does a song have to tell a story?

I read an interview with the band Mastodon, in which they said they weren't too worried about lyrics, they see the voice as just another instrument adding to the texture of the song. That idea changed my attitude towards lyric writing.

This is true. Also you gotta remember that your first goal is to entertain/make a cool sounding song, and the second is to send a message, because if you don't do the first noone will listen to the second. In metal genres in particular I think that its very important for the "texture" of the vocals and lyrics to sound cool and fit the style of the instrumentation. Lyrics that are too introspective wouldn't necessarily match the impact of the song. However you should obviously strive to make interesting and meaningful lyrics no matter what the genre - but don't hate something that isn't very deep if the end result sounds kickass

can you point out where in your previous posts people should have picked up on that question? your original post was all about how you didn't like that songs with juvenile lyrics were being enjoyed
