Default Online collaboration

Hey gang,

not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes..

There are a lot of really talented people kicking around these forums, so I was wondering if anyone (besides me) has considered the idea of doing some online collaborations of cover tunes, just for fun?

I say covers because I don't really want to get into the legal rammifications of song ownership, but if anyone out there is interested in working on stuff jointly, it could be a lot of fun...

I'd be game for most anything in the metal/rock category...

I agree, that would be totally cool. And I have wondered why this isn't more common myself. There would of coarse be some minor limitations unless all parties involved were using the same software. But it would be fun none the less. You should check out my posts on "bash this recording" and see if my style is anything that you are interested in. I could let you listen to some more if you want too. I already checked out the couple of covers that you posted that I could find and they sound good to me. I am definitely interested.

I'd be definitely interested as well.

You can find my stuff at Descent Into Madness Official Website -- News but I can do prety much anything in the rock and metal category, some funk and jazz as well.

Probably because until very recently, the technology just wasn't good enough to make this (easily) possible. I did a song like this about 7 years ago (people from all over contributed to it) and it was pretty terrible. However I think that had a lot do with the fact that the person assembling the song wasn't very skilled at tracking (or anything else really.)

Not necessarily. Obviously some basic song parameters would need to be agreed upon up front (tuning, tempo bit rate/depth, etc. etc.) and ideally one person would be assigned the task of assembling the song once all parts were recorded, but for each individual to record their part, they could use their personal preference in recording software.

The again, ideally you'd only have one person mixing the song, or if everyone felt ambitious, group members could mix their own versions to see who comes out with the best version..etc. etc.. the possibilities are pretty endless.

Who knows, when Brandon gets less busy, he might even enjoy mixing or mastering a collaborative effort from his board... then again, he might just tell us to go stick it and buy his book.. ha ha.. (which I'm going to do as soon as he finishes it.)

I don't have any particular song in mind, however after hearing Casey Weaver's version of Wasted Years on here, I definitely dig his voice, so immediately I'd want to find some tune that maybe we could get him interested in adding vocals to.

Just off the top of my head, Casey might sound really good doing a H.I.M. song (similar lower register strength in vocals)...

I'm open to any/all suggestions though..

I am more inclined towards working on an original tune but I am pretty much game for whatever, I need to do some jamming

I am sorry that I haven't had a chance to actually get the ball rolling on this. I am getting ready to go on vacation with my family and it's been taxing my free time pretty heavily. But I've got a minute so here goes. Let me know if this is something you are interested in jamming with or changing. It is a pretty basic little jam. If anyone wants to work on it I can attach it again as multiple tracks. We can even get rid of some of the tracks if someone wants to do it differently. Just let me know and we can get something going.

Hell, I'd love a chance to write and sing some vocals for that. Cool sound.

Ack, sorry I haven't responded either in a few days, been super busy with life..

Hey Vulcon, if you can come up with a vocal melody, you should definitely go for it..

I wouldn't mind contributing a guitar part or a keyboard part, but if you have a little more of a flushed out idea garage, I'd love to hear it first...

Yeah, I'm still up for this. Each time I come back to it, I still get the same sort of vibe. I'm getting a Stones or The Band sort of feel for the vocals. If that's something along the lines you were thinking, garagegear, let me know. I'll seriously be happy to work up a few things for this, vocal-wise.
