I have had the same problem my whole life. If you really want to start a band, you should go to your local Music store and post a notice that you are auditioning singers. If you play guitar that should be all you need to audition any singer. Also post what kind of music you will be playing and your age and how serious you are. These things don't happen over night. Also just like you wanting to quit the band you are in, you will have to deal with people wanting to quit your band. Remember also there are 40 - 60 year olds that make big money at music still. But they didn't do it by quitting bands and trying to start new ones all the time. You will never find 3 or 4 other guys who are going to agree with everything you say. You will have to give and take or it will never happen for you. Good luck...

I understand being 17, I was there once, well about 20 years ago and it was hard to find someone to get along with in a band. Musical differences aside. I played guitar back then too, I was terrible, I still am, but I found that playing with older people was actually pretty fun. If you are looking for a straight up rock band then maybe the older guys are the way to go. They have experience and older guys tend to be more open about doing different things. I am not telling you what to do at all but my advice would be to just get out there and play. Don't sit back and wait for the PERFECT band to be compiled. If some 40 year olds want to play music and you can convince them to take you into their band, go for it man. There are tons of people out there who like straight up rock and roll and would love to have a good young guitar player. Playing music is supposed to be fun and if you want to make a career of it you still can with old people. They live long enough, even if their 40, to make it big in music. LOL. God I hope so... But as far as finding people your age that aren't poser Emo junkies, well the advice about the local music shop works, or do it the other way and sell yourself on the internet. Let them come to you, and specify NO FUCKING EMO! I wish you luck man, your journey into the music BIZ is only beginning. GOOD LUCK! Michael

Hey thats a good idea craigs list may work well! on the old guy comment... I was 34 when I quit playing on the road. I know guys in their 50's who still play professionally on the road 3/4 of the time. Some of them have serious cash to back it up also. Every band here in my home town that makes money hasn't got a member under the age of 27 So you might want to take a look around your town and see who is doing it and who is talking about doing it. You may be surprised what you would find. My son plays drums. He doesn't do anything else but play drums and party. he keeps getting into bands and the other guys either lose intrest of move off to other towns or to another state. He has to keep starting new bands all the time. Guys your age are flighty. I have been there also. You are in for alot of let downs. Good luck finding serious people to play with your own age. I totally understand you wanting to do that though. Who wants to play with a bunch of burnt out has been old guys right? I felt the same way when I was your age. I truly wish you luck and let us know how it goes. I hope you find the right guys and actually get things going on!

| My son plays pretty much any type of music thrown at him. He likes New Metal which I don't really like that much myself. I encorage him to play what he likes but sometimes you have to give and take. Lately I would just like to see him do something besides Music and Party. He needs to do something with his life... At the same time I really don't want him to give up on his dream. Maybe if he partied less? I don't make him do anything, it is his life! I have taught him everything I know about playing drums and yes everyone who hears him things he rules. Actually he has the bull by the horns. This can be a good thing but I have to say a bull can kick your ass. I have grown apart from him because he wanted to move back in with his Mom. She has since kicked him out and now he is living at a friends house. He never calls me anymore. He may get in touch with me once I start the studio again. Life is so simple to young people. I remember when I had that same bull by the horns. I hope my son can see the ambition of what he wants and not so much what the man wants for him. It is a hard thing to live with though.
