Will VST's for other versions of Cubase work for Cubase LE?

I'm looking at different places on the web for extra things I can add to Cubase LE, as I'll be getting it in the next week or so with my audio interface. Obviously the numer of VST plugins I can use with LE will be limited, but more options are always a good thing.

I've found heaps. Many of them are labelled for certain versions of cubase. Does it really matter what Cubase version it's for? Do I need to look for anything in particular for getting compatible plugins?

I would imagine that there should be no issue with any VSTs - just the number of them you can load

Cubase LE can use VSTs and Direct X plugins. Cubase LE4 does not accept Direct X plugins.

As far as the VST format is concerned, I'm not aware of any incompatability within the format.

Cool. Thanks for the replies. The ebay listing for my Firebox didn't specify exactly which version of LE I'd be getting. It came with LE 4. So no Direct X. Lucky I'm in the right place to learn about side chaining!
