Default VSTi output to mono (Cubase LE4)

I have been trying to figure out how (if it is even possible) to configure a Cubase LE 4 VSTi track output to a mono instead of stereo. I could pan the output to one channel, but I want to get a mono audio track, in order to further process it.

Is this possible in the other versions of Cubase (non LE's)? If so, how is it done in them?

kevoka,

When you export choose mono instead of stereo...

File-> Export -> Audio Track -> Mono is an option in the export window.

Thanks avb. I was hoping that I could do it without exporting/importing. I did find something that solves the immediate problem. a VST plugin called Fat-Ass that will narrow the stereo field down. This is what I needed for now.

Have you tried setting your input bus to mono?

AVB - Not sure how to do that for a VSTi track. Since the input is MIDI, I do not know how that concept would applied.

I do appreciate the mono export answer. It is a solution.

The VSTi would output to an audio track anyway though so I would think you were correct in your assumption.. the MIDI is the input and has nothing to do with how the VSTi outputs.. The option of ticking the track to MONO sounds logical to me.. I can do that in Sonar of I choose. Sadly I do not know how to do it in Cuebase LE, I own it but never used it.

You could output it to a MONO buss possibly and do your editing in there? If changing the stereo track the VSTi is outputting to, can't be changed to MONO...

Umm, not sure audio track is quite right (if it did, then I think I could control it). It does output audio, but it is to the interface via the underlying synth (my current understanding).

I cannot find any way to control the audio output bus from the underlying synth that generates the audio sounds (in my case MS GS wave table synth). I need to check out other synths to see if they provide the control.

I do know how to control the output of the MIDI information and send it to an external device for audio generation.
