I want to place a midi note/marker at every kick drum hit, so that I can place a sampled kick at every note. I have a drum trigger plugin, but I don't know how to use it - I've followed instructions at the plugin's website, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm using cubase le 4, but I don't really understand midi at all, so I need help! Thanks! |

ok...midi is not too complex however i dont a day to type it all out for you lol. When you say you have a drum trigger program what do you mean by this? If you are wanting to program the drums using midi notes then you will need a sampler or virtual drum kit to play the audio hits for you. You need to add your virtual drummer into cubase by loading it up as a midi instrument. Once you have done this then you need to assign that instrument to the midi track you are working on. I use cubase SX3 and know that this process is slightly different than Cubase LE 4.....maybe someone out there can be more specific on exactly what menus or keyboard shortcuts to use to do this. |

Well, as I understand it, this program is supposed to allow you to filter the frequency you want - say kick drum for example - such that a midi note is triggered at each hit of that piece. Basically it would be a reference point so that I could create a track of sampled kick hits, placing one at every midi note. I think you're supposed to add a midi track, with this filter program as its input. You're supposed to be able to select a drum map for the midi output - that way the notes would be played automatically. Is this making sense? I just can't get it to actually work. And I feel like it's a basic misunderstanding of how midi works on my part. Thanks for your reply! |

It really does sound like you are trying to use midi for something it is not designed for. Midi is a trigger for anything from a sampler to a synth to a drum machine. Midi notes are spread out over a "Key range", much in the same way that notes are spread out on a piano. It sounds to me like you are at the point where you are putting midi notes out on the key range, but you cant get it to make any sound?

Need to more about the drum trigger. Is it an effect or a VST Instrument? It sounds like an effect that should be applied as a send (or possibly an insert) on an audio channel (the drums start as an audio track correct?). The output of the audio track send (through ther drum trigger) is then midi data to Midi track as input. When running this then you would record the midi track.

Step 1: create a midi track. Step 2: load up a drum VST instrument Step 3: Assign the VST instrument to the midi track. Step 4: Use the pencil to Draw a blank section of midi on the main screen. Step 5: Highlight the midi section and then Open Drum editor. But you will have to consult your manual on how to do these things as before stated i use cubase SX3 and it is slightly different in practise. However everything i have written in the steps are standard Midi methods. |
