Default TROUBLE recording guitar with CUBASE SX

Okay ... so here's the deal.

Guitar » Line6 PODxt » microphone jack on my PC

I had it working before, but didn't know what the settings were. Everything was perfect and then for whatever reason, the settings got changed up.

1 - The guitar sounds fuzzy (unwanted distortion is being added).

How do I fix this?

2 - When I record into Cubase, I get the spiked bars where there should be silence and when I actually play something, I the whole timeline becomes filled with BLACK (as in, NO spikes, just a BIG solid bar of BLACK).

How do I fix this?

3- When I record on a second track, it records track 1 underneath it. How do I isolate track 2, while being able to hear track 1?

Please help.

I'd HIGHLY recommend that you get a real deal recording audio interface. Check out the home recording soundcard wizard in my signature.

First, Lower the microphone level in the "Volume Control Menu". Control Panel=>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties=>Audio (tab)=>Volume (under "Sound Recording"). Lower that until you you get peaks instead of solid black bar. also, make sure Mic Boost is not on (start there actually. Same path as above, but then click on advanced options under microphone).

Make sure that you are plugged directly into the sound card instead of the convenient mic port on the front of the computer.

As far as the recording right under, not sure what you mean. You might need to go to Project=>add track=>audio, monitor enable track one, and record enable track 2, if that is your problem.

What does it sound like? It appears to me that you are cramming WAY too much signal into your soundcard.

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you rephrase the question.

If you have a PODxt, you can record through your USB port...That should work great...Be sure to have the current drivers and perhaps ASIO4ALL

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but are you recording into your soundcard's MIC input?

If so, don't. Use the line-in input. The POD should give you more than enough amp for that.

Recording directly into the MIC input on your sound card is usually a mistake.
