Default Triggering audio files with a MIDI keyboard (Cubase Essential)

Hi.

Some students I teach have an exam tomorrow, and as part of it would like to create soundscapes using a variety of sounds associated with aviation.

I have rakes of sound files, and ideally I would like for them to be able to trigger the sounds using a MIDI keyboard.

As we are at school, and I have none of my home comforts (Reason, Ableton, Absynth, Battery....you get the picture), could someone please enlighten me as to whether this is possible using flat Cubase Essential?

Much obliged,

Paul.

I think your going to need a little more lead time than that.

I don't know of any way to do it with just a sequencer.

A friend of mine did live theater by putting all his sound effects into a soundfont then triggering the sounds with a midi keyboard with a soundblaster card.

If it had a soft sampler running...

Curious to know if there is a way.

I think you are confirming my fears.

Shisenfarter.

If anyone does know of a way around this, please let me know.

Cheers.

The only way I think to make a presentation like this work is having all the samples loaded in a Cubase project on as many different tracks (in order of likely performance) as possible and play them by mouse - play enabling and cuing and muting all by hand. Not elegant, but you'll get by.

Also, putting them on one track and space-barring it along, Powerpoint-style.

You could work that with keys.

Have all the tracks loaded. Highlight and solo the top track. Hit spacebar to play then the dot on the numpad to rewind. Arrow down and you'll highlight/solo the next track. So you should be able to arrow around and get the one you want without a mouse at least.
