That's quite impressive that you are acheiving all that with 2GB Ram. Surely I should be able to do the same with 4GB (well 3.5 on XP)

I'm considering getting a new soundcard and with that converting from Cubase to Protools but I don't think I have the time and patience to learn a new DAW.

One thing I would like to say going back to the sound perception is that there is a lot to be said for what can also be "felt" sonically. And this is also enchanced by higher frequencies. It's not just our ears that are effected by sound ...... I hope you get what I'm saying even if it sounds alittle strange....?

If you are recording with your final ouput to CD just record at 44.1 and forget about it. Unless your planned output is DVD for video(if your just putting videos on youtube 44.1 will be more than enough) then go with 48 and forget about every thing else and be happy with the fact your getting the best quality with the least messing about. And you'll sleep better.
Get rid of ASIO4ALL use your soundcards drivers at 44.1 like you're supposed to.

I'm attempting to record at these ranges because I like the clarity and sound acheived through my speaker system. I'm well aware that for CD purposes 44khz is enough but I don't see the harm of going higher if I can do it with out too much hassle...

You don't sound much of a believer in anything above 48khz...?
