I've got some midi files which I happily play along to on my Clavinova. The Midi parts are in the correct key so I use the transpose master on my Keyboard to get into the key I have the music for (and can play in). So far so good. It's a bit of a faff to have to keep changing the transpose master on my keyboard so I thought why not change it with a sysex message from Cubase. After much research I thought I'd found the answer but unfortunately no. The Sysex message I send transposes the midi parts which I want to leave and doesn't touch the Notes I'm playing i.e. the notes I play on the keyboard stay at the same pitch as they were. I tried "recording" while I changed the Transpose Master on the keyboard but nothing gets recorder, other sysplex messages do such as a bank switch etc. Any one any ideas where to look. Cheers |

If you run your keyboard through cubase, so turn off local control so that it doesn't play when you hit the keys, just send out midi. Then set up a track from and to your keyboard then use the transpose real time parameters in the inspector to the left and everything you play will be transposed however you set it.

I'm sorry I can't have explained the problem clearly. I don't want to transpose the notes being sent to the Clavinova from Cubase. I want to instruct the clavinova to transpose the notes I play on it. I would normally do this by changing the transpose on the Clavinova via the menus. I want to achieve this menu change via a sysplex message but leave the notes being sent from Cubase in the key they are. Cheers |

That's what I said, you can use cubase to transpose the notes on the fly that you play on it. I don't know your hardware, it would need a local control option on it to do this. Which is a way that a keyboard that normally you just play can separate itself into a keyboard (controller that generates midi) and a sound module. All modern keyboards can do this, even most of the cheap ones.

Sorry if I'm stretching your patience but I want to hear the Clavinova voices, what I'm doing is playing along to a backing track that Cubase is sending me...lets say Cubase is Playing in the key of F, which is perfect for my singing, My music on the Clavinova is in Eb which is perfect for playing so I transpose the Clavinova to F using the built in menus on the Clavinova, Cubase continues playing in F which I want and my Clavinova sounds like it's playing in F, but in reality I'm playing in Eb. All thats great. What I want to do is send a sysplex message from Cubase to do the menu change that transposes from Eb to F on the Clavinova to save me having to mess about between songs Thanks for your interest |

Your keyboard doesn't have the local off then... Sure, just paste the sysex message in your track or on it's own track, wherever you want. You have to figure out what that message is. Cubase will send it out. Sysex is system exclusive for the clavinova so you need a good manual for it or a clavinova forum, someone really familiar with that hardware. Have you tried recording the midi output from it while you transpose the keyboard? (or watch it in midi ox) Some devices send everything out, record that then send it back whenever you want it. Many do not though. Not all functions of keyboards are implemented in midi. That's why changing the key between the keys and the sound generator is the easiest way to go.

Yes I tried to "record" the transpose but it didn't appear, other Sysplex messages do. I'll try a Clavinova forum. The manual and the tech spec are not upto much. I found a few enthuisiasts but so far no good. Thanks for your help
