Default Stereo tracks in Cubase

I tried to add a stereo FX Group for a reverb but when it comes up, the panning is marked in the center. Shouldn't it be set to hard left and hard right? The same thing with my 2-buss....the little panning indicator shows that it's set to center.

I messed with this a while back. I would prefer two pots (one for each side) as well, but they've linked the two channels together...just like if you record a stereo track.

Sometimes I want to pan one track 40% left and the other 100% right. The only way to do that is with 2 mono tracks, (or in this case, two different mono reverbs).

The panner will simply lower the volume of the opposite side. So if you pan to the right, you are just knocking down the level of the left.

Not the best system, but it has never been a serious issue for me.

Brandon, so on your 2-buss or a stereo FX track, the panning bar is at "C?" I wonder why it's like that...you'd think since it's a stereo track they would be permanently set hard L and hard R with two little vertical sliders

Agreed. Maybe there is an option for this somewhere. I would DEFINITELY want panning control over each side. Of course, if I know it's going to be an issue, I just record two mono tracks.

Recording the two mono tracks is a pain for editing sometimes though (and that's the only reason I would record a stereo track anyway.

The only instrument I record like this is acoustic guitar, so it's not that big of issue, really.

They used to have two sliders in VST and in fact the whole mix thing seemed more flexible (you could change the left and right independently or use the pan controls). I'm thinking this is more like "true" stereo. I don't know why they changed it although I've only once found it to be a bit of a drag.

I want to say that Cubase VST 5 had seperate faders for each side (it's been a while).

I don't like the way the stereo tracks pan by simply lowering the volume of one side or the other. I realize this is how panning a mono track works, but if this applied to a stereo track, all you are really doing is ditching the stereo information.

Sometimes I like to pan stereo stuff 100% left and center.

Years ago I tracked a 2 guitar metal band. We doubled each guitar player so we had 4 tracks. For 1 guitarist, I panned layer #1 hard left and layer #2 about 40% right. Then for guitarist number 2, I did the opposite. So basically, you had each guitarist hard panned and another layer with them overlapping.

It did something REALLY cool for that recording.

Of course, this was done with mono electric guitar tracks, but the same could be done with acoustic guitar or any other instrument typically recorded in stereo.
