Splitting Left & Right Channels in Cubase
Hi. I want to import tracks from playalong CDs that are split to right and left channels, so that you can practice with either channel depending on the instrument you play. Since my loudspeaker system doesn't allow me to listen to channels separately, I have to import separate channels into my audio program in order to get the benefit of that. I can do it in Adobe Audition - it's extremely easy, you just highlight and cut the right channel, say, and copy the left channel to the vacant channel which gives you a stereo trackl. Then you do the same with the right channel.
How do you do that in Cubase? Since I'm using Cubase for playback and practice, I guess it would be quicker to just do it there rather than going to the Audition program first, though I don't really care - it's a small matter - but I still think it'd probably be better to do everything in one program.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Mike.

Re: Splitting Left & Right Channels in Cubase
Hmm. This is a good question. I'll have to fire my rig up to see.
No time for that not. I'm off to do Christmas stuff.

Re: Splitting Left & Right Channels in Cubase
Here's one way to do it...
Import your audio from CD. Set your left and right locators around it, export audio and under channels select Stereo Split. Check the Import to Audio Track (the Import to Pool will then select automatically). Cubase will then bring in two separate tracks - left and right. You can now delete your stereo track.
It's not particularly simple, and I really thought there was an easier way to do it, but I can't seem to find it now. I guess this is what I'd do. At least it works!

Re: Splitting Left & Right Channels in Cubase
Thanks, Richiebee.
Seems complicated. Might be eaiser to do it in Audition. It seems that no single program always has all the doodads you need. I find Audition a very user-friendly application, it's easy and handy.
Well, I'll see which works best. Thanks for you help.

Actually, I guess another way would be just to move the panner all the way to left or right... exactly the same as if you were using it in a stereo system. It'll only come out of one speaker, but it would if you were using a stereo too.
