Default recording vsts

hello,
wondered whether anyone could help me with this.

Is there anyway of recording a vst output track on to another audio track. I am using sx3, and it doesnt give me the option of routing the output of a vst to the input of an audio track.
This would be useful when I havnt got an external midi kboard plugged in and I am playing the vst using its own virtual kbrd.
Also is the any way of recording the midi information from the virtual kbrd onto a midi track?
Any help, much appreciated

Ta

paul

In Cubase, you open a MIDI track instead of audio and assign that instrument to it. It Sounds like you may be setting up your vst instrument in stand-alone mode. When you also assign the MIDI inputs on the midi track you can record your playing, then you have the performance and instrument playing on it's own, which you can then export into audio.

Thanks for the reply string 7th.
I dont think I was very clear bout what I was trying to do. I use a midi trck then assign the vst to the midi output, there is absolutely no problem when writing midi data using an external kbrd or editor and exporting audio on mixdown.
Its just that sometimes when Im on the move and dont have the midi keyboard, it would be useful to be able to record the vst using its own virtual kbrd either the midi info or the audio output of the vsti. Another example of where it would be useful would be to record the audio output of addictive drums.
Any suggestions?

To turn a midi/VSTi into a audio track, Export a mixdown on the file menu, I think it is.

You can choose all the parameters mono, stereo etc. also where it comes from, the main mix or one of the vsti's. Also a check box to put this 'exported' file into the project.

You could also freeze a track if your worried about having too much going on. This is basically the same but cubase handles it for you.

Hi,
thanks for the reply tacman7, again I havnt explained my problem clearly.
I dont have any problem exporting a midi track as audio or freezing it.
My problem/question is that when you play some vstis using their own virtual keyboard eg korgs legacy collection, you can hear the audio, it shows up on the vst track and the stereo out. Is there any way of routing that audio to record on to an audio track? There is no midi track, because playing the vsti keyboard doesnt seem to generate any midi information that cubase can record on to a midi track.
This would be useful when I am not near my midi keyboard, as an alternative to using a midi or score editor.

any suggestions?

paul

Sorry, I don't read all the posts some times.

Well you can record everything with a loopback input or a cable if you don't have that but that would be everything. If you want just the playing you would have to solo the track but your probably playing along with something.

It's not midi so wouldn't be anyway to 'capture' it.

You could write korg support, they know the insides of their plugs better than anyone.

Get a korg nanokey $59

Yeah I guess I'm confused. When I program Steven Slate drums or Keyboard, or synth as a Cubase LE4 vsti, I don't need an extra step to export to audio. I solo that MIDI track, export audio mixdown to a wav file, create new audio track, click and drag the wav file to that new audio track. Then it's ready for editing.

You shouldn't have to solo anything if you select the vsti in the dialog box or drag it anywhere if you use both checkboxes for put it in the pool and put it on a track.

One operation, the export, turns it into audio and puts it on a track.

That's in SX3, guess you have those options in LE4.
