Exclamation Recording Drops out

We are running CB LE with 6 audio inputs. Recording stops after about 5 seconds. Watching VST performance, the meter barely moves but there is an occasional red light but the meter never pegs. The program does not freeze, it just stops recording.

I am runing a HP 6700, dual core, 3 gigs ram on Vista premium 32 bit to an
Alesis Mulitmix12 Firewire.

Recording at 44.1, low latency, 16 bit, have had buffer size up to 512 so far. Have set the recording length to max.

This did not happen when I recorded on 1 and 2 tracks.

We've been here since about 9 this morning and are still at it. Help!

not trying to annoy you... but have you checked that you haven't inadvertently set the 'punch out' to stop the recording? (I was doing this the other day for about an hour before I figured it out!)

I don't think so. But then again, anything could happen. We never came accross any referrence to punch out. We're just in the recording stage right now, editing is still a ways off. Could it possibly be an autonomic program response cause all I'm aware of doing was hitting the record button and left the silly thing to it's own devices.

I'll check out the punch thing. Seems the problems here are a bit additive, we're not going to dismiss any suggestion. Hope it doesn't take another 12 hours to get it right.

Thanks!!

it's easy to click over it in the transport panel without realising (particularly on a laptop, if you brush over the mousepad while typing). It's always the simplest ones that seem to throw you for ages and take forever to work out!
Just to be sure... try widening your selection area and recording again. see if it changes position where it drops out

I had a problem with this recently. It didn't matter if i was tracking 1 track or 16. It turned out that my drivers were old and updating took care of it.

The fact that track size matters could indicate an issue with your hard drive. Are you using a 7200rpm drive? Is it more than 85% full? Do you defrag regularly?

Brandon, my PC is doing exactly this at the moment: CPU and DISK meters in Cubase (F12) do not show much activity and then the disk meter seems to spike and the CPU meter shows a short red light. Recording stops, but Cubase keeps on working. Tried everything but the drivers, I think.

So BIG QUESTION: which drivers did you update to rescue it?
And smaller question: is there a quick and easy way to update drivers on a pc that is very much NOT connected to the internet?

I'll be eating my shoes if I don't get this problem out of my system... Can't record more than a few minutes now...

Thanks!!! You're site rocks (much more than my pc at the moment)

Cool Re: Recording Drops out

After much consternation, we finally seemed to have fixed the problem by using a computer that has the TI firewire chipset. As stated in the tech specs, cubase does not play well with others. So we stopped running with scissors and went along with the program. No problems since.

Right, that will be the next thing to buy: a TI Firewire-card. Thanks!

Hey guys runing into the same issue - just got a beast quad core 64 bit vista with cubase le and presonus firestudio. recording drops out like crazy. im going nuts havent slept in days .. i have a session coming up in a week and need to get this fixed. any ideas?

On my new PC i have a 1394 but i had to buy an adapter for the firestudio cord to fit into it becuase it was so small. Could that be it?? It records so well and sounds so much better than my old pc when i actually records the few seconds that it does, any ideas? or mainly is it disabling something in the system? I have ran repairs, uninstalled reinstalled cubase, uninstalled presonus drivers, reinstalled, installed universal control that seems to be the only way to get the firestudio reconized in vista. any help would be awesome. this site is amazing. thanks for all the help in advance.

heres a clip of the audio crackling mixed down, no drop outs in the mixdown but when its played in cubase it drops out like crazy and crackles and the actual recording will stop after a few seconds.

the actual recorded audio sounds great from this soundcard. Realtek HD audio. Is there something i can disable there that could be causing this? playback sounds great but the crackling is killing me.

I bought a TI-chipped firewirecard, which really improved things. I've still got some issues, probably Vista-related. I'm updating the drivers of my graphics card today, that seems to be a show-stopper as well. I'll keep you informed. Try to catch soms zzzz's though!
