Default Problems with playback on Cubase

I recently bought a Zoom HD16cd multitrack recorder that came with a Cubase LE 4. It installed fine on my comp which is a Compaq presario SR2180 NX 4 gigs of Ram at 2.8. I have other programs that play my soundtracks but upon importing a track to Cubase it would not play back. I checked all the settings in device manager and everything is working. The file is a WAV file which plays elsewhere in other programs. When i imported the file to cubase a window came up that said MISSING PORTS which read as follows
ASIO DIRECTX FULL DUPLEX SOUND MAX DIGITAL AUDIO
FOLLOWED BY A HILITED UNMAPPED, which when clicked on said not connected and there seemed to be no way to get it connected. there were 4 of these, two ins marked left and right and two outs marked left and right. Im guessing the reason I cant hear any playback is because the Cubase Program isnt set up for it as it needs to have the ports connected. Is this the reason I cant hear anything and how do I fix this? Help please

yeah this same thing happened to me today lol. but different device.

Go to device setup.
make sure your drivers for your system are downloaded and clicked on.
when you go to devices, VST connections, make sure under audio device, that it says your connected. if not just click it and connect it.
then go back to device setup and click reset.

im pretty sure that will make cubase recognize your device...atleast thats what tech support did for me today with my soundcard and it worked.

Vst connections is where you setup the different connections for your sound card but you first have to choose your audio system that you want Cubase to use.

Devices/device setup then VSTaudio system - and choose an ASIO driver. First you should download and install the latest driver from Zoom, then find it there.

I would like to thank Tacman and reckless for their help as a result i now have my Cubase LE 4 working on my Vista Home Premium comp. All I had to do was go get the drivers and install and voila it worked. The drivers can be had at ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver if anyone needs them. This is a great place to get help i will highly recomend it to others, much better than some of the othe rplaces here who seem to have it out for the newbies like me thanks again
