Default Problem connecting M-Audio's black box

Hi everyone
I bought a few weeks ago M-Audio's black box and everything is fine.My problem is that I can’t hear any sound when I use it with cubase SX3. Black box is recognised by cubase automatically:
In: Black box midi in
Out: Black box midi out
Ch: 1
Bnk: off prg: off
And my p.c. (Pentium 4,2Ghz, 1.270 G Ram, windows XP SP2 with DirectX 9 ) :
Guitar
External midi beat clock

Connected

But I can’t hear any sound, neither any movement in the Level control output or input channel. What is actually wrong? Can anybody help me please? Has anything to do with filters (patches).
Thanks you in advance.

What is your sound source? Guitar??? If so, it looks like you have set up a MIDI track. You need an audio track.

My sound source is guitar, drum machine and mic. I have set up a midi track because the connection is via USB. When I put an audio track, black box is not recognised (only my sound card: SB Audigy 2ZS Audio).
Thanks

Well, if you're recording audio in (which you are) you need an audio track regardless of how the device connects to your computer. MIDI is not a connection type. It's a data type.
It seems then that the problem is that your computer is not recognizing your device as an audio device. Have you installed the drivers properly? Have you tried setting up the device in Device Set up? Have you tried disconnecting your Audigy? Does any other application show the Black Box? What about in the control panel?

You are right, I need an audio track. I did changed Master Asio Driver (in Device setup – VST Audiobay) to M- Audio USB ASIO and it records (also there is movement in the level control. However I can’t hear any sound. The same happens with Ableton live 4.
Control panel shows black box. Perhaps, there is something wrong in sounds and Audio Devices properties control panel. I have:
Audio:
Sound playback: black box out ½
Sound recording: black box in ½
Midi music playback: black box midi out
Voice:
Voice playback: Black box out ½
Voice recording: black box in ½

Try this article first. Let us know if that doesn't solve it. Some of the article is over simplified, but it should fix your problem.

Hi Brandon
I read most of your articles, they are really helpful!!!
Well, when I put in VST Audiobay> M-Audio USB ASIO it records but no sound. When I put anything else I have sound but I can’t record.
I did put in Audio preferences: my sound card SB Audigy 2ZS Audio in sound playback, recording playback and midi playback. What about in the voice properties? I still choose my soundcard?
thanks

Your blackbox is your sound card now. Everything should refer to it, and your speakers or headphones should be plugged into it.

Forget the Audigy, it's dead to you.

Yeah!!! Evevrything is perfect now. However, I have a couple of questions for you.
Firstly, now that I use black box, a good sound card is it useless (at least when I play guitar, bass or sing(through black box)? Do I need an expensive sound card? What about when I use midi keyboard? A really fancy sound card is it important? What about mixing and mastering?
Why studio monitors should not be placed closed to the wall?
