I tired playback routed thru my tascam us 1641 and its fine
Why is that??? Does the tascam have its own ram/processor?

I have a stock soundcard, when im running my project (with about, 30 plus VST's going) the playback is crackly which is real annoying when your trying to mix!
Any ideas?

No. The issue is most likely how your stock soundcard handles latency via its driver. I bet if you set your 1641 to a buffer of 64 samples or so, you'd end up with crackles again. A stock soundcard may have high latency, but still put unnecessary load on your computer's CPU.Does the tascam have its own ram/processor?
