Default need help with my midi keyboard

hi. i have cubase le with an E-MU 0202 usb soundcard. i also have a midi keyboard which i bought a while ago and gets its power from the computer. i used to connect it to my old pc via a gameport but i dont have one of those on my new laptop. so i bought an M-Audio usb midi interface hoping that i could use the midi sounds on my computer with it and use it instead of the virtual keyboard in cubase. i installed it and plugged the midi out on the keyboard into the midi out on the midi interface (i tried it with the midi in but no power went to the keyboard). im sort of confused really, as my cubase needs the E-MU to run but it has no midi ports on it and the M-audio interface is running through a different usb slot. can anyone help me?

I don't do much midi recording myself. But what I have seen my friends do. I am pretty sure you need to have both the midi out and midi in on the keyboard going to the midi out and midi in on the interface. So from your midi board you will have two cables going to and from the interface.

How does the keyboard get its power from your computer?

This isn't right. Regardless of your other issues, a MIDI out should flow into a MIDI in.

For what? I should be able to simply use the M-Audio box.

I've never heard of a standard MIDI cable powering anything. I guess a person COULD re-engineer it to do this but I've never heard of it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it isn't going to happen.

What is your MIDI controller? Can it be powered by the wall outlet?
