Angry Midi Recording out of time

I am using cubase sx3 with emu 1616m and an evolution controler. The problem that I am having is that when I record midi to a groove agent track I cannot get the midi to record in time. I have tryed all different quantize settings and Im sure it's not latencey as my card is pretty good like that, it seems like the midi records before the beat of the click track. My Pc is dual core and I dont think that is the problem, It's probably my lack of knowledge being a newbee! Please help I need to move on and make some music.....

If you manually draw in a trigger, does it playback in time?

Yea I have to go into the key editor and shift all of the notes up a few beats which can take time and becomes really annoying

Okay, so are you saying that if you go into the sequencer and manually click the note with a mouse, the music is in time, but if you record live, the notes end up being ahead?

What are you using the record? A midi controller? A electronic drumset? What kind?

How much is your midi out of time? A few clicks? Or a few beats?

Im using a midi controller and the recording is out a few clicks in front of the beat, I dont understand why cubase shoves the notes backwards if it was latency woulnt it place them after the beat?

That does seam logical. This tells me the problem is in the way that that Cubase is calculating it's latency compensation.

Are you using the latest version of Cubase SX3? I noticed that several bugs were fixed when I updated.

Also, is the problem only in Groove Agent or is the problem occuring with other VSTi's or samplers?

I have the problem even when I use the lm7. what seems to happen is that cubase doesn't record the first beat and then begins to record throwing the timing out, I can actually see the notes being pushed backwards for no apparent reason. Would it help to reinstall my sound card?

Thanks M

Hi Brandon

I just restarted cubase and the problem seems to have fixed itself for now although I will have to restart my project if there is a bug in my last saved one. I will keep you posted.

Cheers for the support!

Dude, I understand that the notes are getting pushed forward. I can't help you if you don't answer my questions, though.

So have you upgraded Cubase yet?
