Default Midi keyboard connection to sx3 problem

Hi,

I have a problem, my keyboard signal is not reading through the midi track in cubase. I get sound from the keyboard when I am in "key editor" but no sound otherwise.
I'm not sure if the problem is through my device set up, control panel or if it is a sound card issue.
Can someone please advise?

Thanks,

Kat

Troubleshooting.

So you create a midi track then set the input to your keyboard and play the keyboard.
Does the little meter on the track move?

If yes then you have to send the signal somewhere. Back to the keyboard? or to a soft synth or whatever. If your sending it back to the keyboard you would usually set the keyboard to "local off" which means your keyboard won't play by itself, the midi signal has to run through cubase and get sent back to the keyboard before it will sound.

Is this a USB midi connection?

So when you clicked on the input selector for the midi track your usb midi port is listed?

Have you installed the midi driver from the keyboard manufacturer?

I know you have to do that with Yamaha keyboards.

Do know your keyboard is putting out midi?

Some keyboards don't output midi unless you set it up in the keyboards controls. Something like midi out - on or off.

You can download a program called midi-ox which just lets you see what a midi port is receiving just to make sure.

Is the meter in the transport bar (the thing with stop and play in it) light up when you stike your MIDI controller?

If not, it sounds like you dont' have the device enabled in Cubase. Check the manual for enabling new devices.

If you do get the meters to light up in the transport bar, this should be an issue of routing. Have you followed the steps for create a MIDI track in the manual?
