So did you read Soundcard Troubleshooting 101? Did it help?

Do you have the ins and outs of Cubase routed properly?

It's TOTALLY okay here to be new to something. If you don't understand something, please ask. There is seldom a miracle cure for this stuff and you need to develop a "feel" for it over time so you can address problems.

In Cubase SX3 (my version), if you press F4 you see the various routing settings. There will be an outputs. You want to make sure those are set to use your audio interface and not a stock soundcard or something like that (if you have an audio interface).

For example, I use a Presonus Firestudio and so my Cubase outputs go out of "Presonus Out 1/2".

You click on "Not Connected" and see if you can select your audio interface. If not, you need to make sure that A) you audio interface is indeed installed B) You have selected the correct driver for it in Cubase. I believe this is under the devices menu, but I would check the manual.

Did you not go through the Getting Started guide in Cubase?
