Default Issues with Cubase 5 upgrade

Hi!
Recently I upgraded my Cubase SX3 to Cubase 5 and I can't seem to get any sounds in or out from my new Cubase, while the old version was running just fine. I tried reinstalling the firewire interface divers (Makie Onyx 400F) and nothing.
Here are my system configuration:
AMD Phenom II X4 920 quadcore processor running at 2.8 Ghz
ASUS M3N78-VM Motherboard with 2X2 Ghz Patriot RAM memory @ 800mhz FSB
2X 160 Western Digital 7200rpm RAID (RAID 1 I think) setup
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit version
Makie Onyx 400F firewire interface with the latest drivers installed from makie website ....
The weird thing about this is the fact that I have a Magix Music Maker 12 deluxe recording program that works just fine, but when I start Cubase and I have the Makie console open, I can see that the sample rate setting in the console is jumping from 44.1 kHz to 192kHz back ant forth, and if I try to adjust it, Cubase would give me error. I contacted steinberd Cubase customer service and they told me that they don't know of any issues with my firewire interface. Unfortunately, I can't talk to them on the phone while I am in front of my computer because by the time that I get home they close (EST versus PST).
I am just hoping that I could get a clue of what could possibly be wrong with my setup.
Thank you very much!

Talking Re: Issues with Cubase 5 upgrade

Hi!
The issue is not the operating system at all (well, at least wasn't in my case) it is either your anti-virus that would block Cubase to go online, or the drivers. What I did was, in this order: Reinstall windows, install a different anti-virus (I had Norton and for some reason did not get along at all with my Cubase and I installed Avast instead and the problems are gone)) install audio interface latest drivers, and then install Cubase , and it did work for me!
I hope that this information might be at any help for you!

Thanks mate,

I think it could have been slightly different problem cause my Cubase worked fine, what happened was when i was working away my Sample rate would jump from 44.1 to 192 randomly in the sound card mixer. i ended up changing all the default sample rates in the win 7 sound options to 44.1 and i also updated my UAD-1 card drivers.

So far touch wood, all is going sweet.

Cheers
Dave

Hi there,

I also would like to install Cubase 5 while currently using SX3....My SX3 is not an original but works fine. My question to you guys is if i decide to install a decent version of Cubase 5 will i be able to open all my SX3 projects on it?
Should i expect changes under the audio ins/outs settings?

Please help me,

I'm using windows xp with Mackie Onyx 400f.

Thanks

Eyal G.

Hi!
I am not sure about your version of Cubase SX3 and about your version of Cubase 5 that you are planing to install, but I upgrated my SX3 to Cubase 5 and all my previous projects worked just fine ... I have to say that I haven't got too far with my Cubase SX3 so all my SX3 projects were very very simple ...
I had to reinstall Cubase 5 recently, and, just as a helpful hint, I wasn't able to get any sound from Cubase, I couldn't get any sound from my previous projects until I did a sample recording, and after that, everything went back to normal ...
I hope that this information will help.
