Default I hate Cubase!! I need help :)

Hey all,

Ok can I just let you know my position with Cubase...I hate the bugger, can't stand it, but I have to use it as University are making us write a software guide on it, and I have to use to to record my songs.

First of all, I can't be bothered to set this up with my electro acoustic, because i'm simply not in the mood.

Can somebody please explain to me what I am doing wrong?

I am importing audio/wav files into cubase, to create an electro track.

These files are tinyyy because I am going to re-arrange these into an order which will make a funky tune.
However, when I import these small files, cubase won't let me simply drag and drop the files wherever I want them to go.

I have attached an image (please take a look) as I cant explain what I mean.

As the image shows, I have 1 wav file in place, but the second one, I want to move that directly after the the previous, but it wont let me do this.

Is this because of the tempo, or the 4/4 ??

I dont want a big white blank space in between these two sounds, i want them to join together and make them one after another...can somebody explain what I need to do here...

Oh yeah, did I mention...I hate cubase?!?! lol

Thanks x

First you must apologize to Cubase and speak int low, soothing tones. Then look onthe toolbar directly below the menu bar on top. There are three rectangular, black, drop down menus. The one on the left allows you to have items like that clip snmap to a GRID, or let you put them anywhere with a MAGNETIC CURSOR, adn ther are some other settings. It seems you want them to fit a grid but your scale is too alrge. So the next box to the right has options for Measure, Beat, and Quantize. It looks like you may have it set at measure and so every clip goes to the front of a new measure. Try setting it to beat. But what beat you ask? That's the third box where you can select whole notes, quarter notes, eighths, etc.

Holding Ctrl (on a PC) while you drag allows you to place a clip anywhere, ignoring the time signature/snap settings.

Before getting to complicated just click the snap on/off button at the top it looks kinda like this >l< kinda.
This will allow you to drag your samples and drop them wherever you want intead of being locked to a grid.

I had the same problem and continue to have problems in other areas... but if you just change the snap type located on the upper right of the screen (looks like a tiny grid #) this might fix you up.
