Default How do i record multiple tracks using Cubase Le 4?

I just recently bought an Alesis IMultimix 8 that came with Cubase LE 4. I connected it to my computer and installed Cubase. I have tried several times to record using multiple tracks, but i have not been successful. When I create two tracks, one mic and one for guitar, for example, and record, it will record the sound from both instruments on both tracks together. I cannot get the instruments to record independently on the separate tracks(the mic on track 1, and the guitar on track 2, for example). Can you please help me solve this problem, tell me what i am doing wrong, or just tell me how to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you create the audio track, select mono. Then in the input window in the inspector, select Stereo Input - Left or Stereo Input - Right for each track.

it didn't do anything. all it did was have track one record the left and have track two record the right.

OK.. do this: devices menu> vst connections>, create two(2) mono input busses corresponding to your inputs on your interface(if this is jibberish, read the cubase manual). Now, create your audio tracks from the project menu. click the colored bar at the top of the inspector window(should say audio 01 or 02 respectively). in that window there are the input and output routing boxes. click the input and select the mono input bus you created for your #1(microphone) input on the interface, then the same for #2(your guitar). now cubase has a way to separate the tracks coming in. I usually run the output from most of my tracks to the the stereo out bus, that way you can pan them as needed. make sure you enable record on both tracks and away you go. hope this helps, let us know how it goes. -Z-

the imultimix 8 hardware does not feature simultaneous recording
although your cubase supports multi track recording

usually on cubase you can assign bus on each audio track to record independently i can give you a step by step guide on how to do that but the problem is that your hardware only support a stereo or mono track recording so even if you use multiple input on your hardware it will only give you a stereo mixdown on your software

i suggest that you record each track one at a time so that you can mix them well later on.

i will try this, but if it works then it will only work for two tracks at a time, right. what if i want to record more than just twoinstruments, for example two mics, two guitars, and a bass? will it still work?

i have the FP10 presonus, and i'm having a problem with recording. Only my inputs 1 + 2 are getting sound. I get waves from all of the inputs but only the first two have sounds when i play them back.

I have the same issue with multimix8 and it does simultaneous recording of 8 channels. I already recorded 4 simutaneous channels using ableton live using this hardware.
