Question Help! Sections disappear when using Glue tool (4 LE)?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me why I am having problems with the 'Glue Tool' in Cubase 4 LE?

The problem is that frequently when I use the glue tool and click on a section of the track, the following section of the track (which should become joined to the first section) actually disappears, and the first section extends to the end of the second section, but with a blank section replacing the piece of music in the second section, which is no longer there. I have tried glueing individual sections, and highlighting the whole track and using the tool, but the same thing happens regardless.

I hope I have explained that clearly!

Thank you in anticipation of any help anyone can offer.

DPB

First the moral support..I understand what you are talking about. The more empathy I have with people's problems, unfortunately, the less I sound like an expert, which of course, I am not.

Many times I find the problem is a tiny slice left over from a previous "cut' or "delete" function. If you move the two segments to an adjoining track temporarily, you will often see a tiny sliver of a previous file. Delete it, and return your waveforms to their previous positions and often the glue will work perfectly. Other times the one file is actually overlapping the second, ever so slightly, and if you move it back at the "seam" the glue operation will then work.

Other times nothing seems to work, and then I do a "bounce" to make the file continuous.

I would be very happy to hear if someone has a better solution. Dave

I've never seen this one. Of course, I very rarely use the glue tool.

Thank you Electriclight and Brandondrury.

Yes, Electriclight that is exactly what it was, there were a couple of little bits that were there when I moved the larger pieces. Now all I have to do, now I know what it is, is stick the tufts of hair I've torn out, back in!

Just one more thing: What do you mean by "I do a bounce" ?

Thanks again!

I'm glad you validated my theory. But it still is a nuisance.

When you select several clips and then right click, the Bounce option is found under the Audio menu. It will create one permanent audio clip from everything you havve selected, which includes any volume envelopes and fades. It does preserve any effects.
