The Uno doesn't cause lag. Well, not noticable anyway. I'll bet a million bucks that the lag (its called latency) is coming from your sound card. What are you using as VST Instruments? What are you using for a sound card?

First things first, to make this work, you need to lower the latency of your soundcard. The best way to do this is to get a professional audio interface, whether PCI based or USB/Firewire. The cheap alternative is to try ASIO4ALL which reportedly gives users with crappy sound cards really low latency. I've never used this, but it has certainly established a good name for itself. www.asio4all.com should get you there.

Once you've done that, you can start looking at your other problems but until you get your latency down, there's really not a whole lot of point because the latency could well be causing the problem.

It's time to get a real sound card. Check my signature for the Sound Card Wizard.

Stock sound cards just weren't designed for real deal recording.
