I have the Emu 1616m and have installed Cubase Essential. How do I create a template in Emu that utilizes/activates ALL inputs for simultanious recording and how in the world do you bring up each input up in cubase? There are 4 unbalanced inputs on the back of the dock-BUT- there is only one channel strip for 1/L & 1/R and one strip for 2/L & 2/R. How could they make this any more difficult? I need to have each quarter inch input independent for sending to cubase don't I? I have read the manuals and just don't get it and I aint that stupid! I tried to set a template in the Emu software to activate all inputs simultaniously at all times and I am totaly discouraged...I don't believe I am at all concerned with SPDF, ADAT or MIDI-I just want to record vocals, bass, guitar and real drums.-Drums via the 4 quarter inch inputs on the back of the dock. SPDF,ADAT and WAVE come up alot in Emu. ON Top Of ALL OF THIS; When I do lay down tracks with the Emu template I have managed to create, I hear all tracks in all tracks even when soloing a track. I am sure this is a routing or setting issue because I had the same problem with the Cubase LE. If any of you have the time and knowledge to help this newbie out, I would be so very grateful. This is draining all of the fun out of creating but I really want to learn this and I am very thankfull for Recording review. Sighned, Struggling like a Mo Fo. |

Your having trouble understanding the patchmix software. Very easy to get lost. I wrote emu for help when I first got it because it was impossible. But it great when you get used to it, aaaaaaaaaaaaand understand it. You don't need those templates just get one that's running at the sample rate you want and modify it and save it, then work from there. Delete those stereo channels and create mono channels in their place. Don't have mono channels? You need the latest software, that was a recent innovation, having the ability to treat two inputs as 1 stereo input or two mono inputs. So basically you have all your real inputs lined up in a row then you put a send on each one. I start with the master output as 1-2 then work left to right so I can keep things organized. Then in cubase... You create busses to handle the inputs from your 1616. You do this in VSTconnections on the device menu. So on the input tab create a bus then assign inputs to it, then it will be available for you to use in the project window on the input of an audio track. By the way there's nothing wrong with leaving the input as a stereo pair in patchbay, when you get into cubase and make a mono track you can select as its input #2right or whatever. Whatever is best for your way of working. Main thing is to understand how sound it routed in/out/thru patchmix. That and naming, organizing everything so you know what's what when you get into cubase. |

Thankyou for your help. I still wonder if there has to be a channel strip for each input for a template to work. I just don't understand why you can't find this info anywhere. Cubase says everything is fine with my settings and that the channel bleed over is in the Emu software settings and of course they only provide email support. All I really need to know is how to take each physical input to a track in cubase. Seems impossible at this point. This all I am after with this wonderful endeavor; input mic line A to track one in cubase input mic line B to track two in Cubase input 1/L.........to track three in cubase input 1/R.........to track four in Cubase input 2/L..........to track five in cubase input 2/R..........to track five in Cubase The manuals speak nothing of the concept. this is not rocket science, is it? why don't they make this a bit more user friendly? Hey I'm not snapping at you..I am very grateful for your insight. Plus I saw where Brandon let a fella know he was'nt being too nice on here. So lets get this strait; I am nice and I am very thankfull for this web site..I am also very frustrated and depressed about all of the money I have sunk into this awesome computer and the Cubase and the Emu 1616m system only to have it sit there and be unusable to me. lots of $$$ on credit! Thankyou again kind helpers on Recording Review !!!!!!!!!!! |

That's a strange problem. I have an 1820m but it's pretty much the same machine. It records whatever input I point it at. I would do some testing, try recording on different channels etc. and check the actual wav files it creates in a different program. You created the busses in VST connections and connected each buss to a seperate send from patchmix...Because if you only have the default send from patchmix and create a bunch of busses they would default to the only available send. If that's all setup right I can't think what would be creating the results your getting. I'll think about it and see if anything occurs to me. I know how frustrating it can be, trust me. |

YAY !!!!!! I can now lay down tracks AND solo each track and it all works !!! I spent time with SENDS. I opened up 6 tracks because I would love to learn how to simultaniously record at least 4. I went into each tracks inspector and was almost there... adding "stereo out" with matching track number -almost there... but then I clicked on the little e and realized and remembered about that little drag accross blue line in each send... I dragged each one in each channel to 0.00 db on all channels NOW this thing is actualy acting like it should ! I STILL need to learn about setting locaters so I can procede with a mixdown... but I feel if I can get this far I can get there. I am still not finding info on simultaniously recording with multiple inputs.. you know, for a drum set. I had great results with REAL drums this summer with my brother and his Roland VS 880 we editited that kit and it sounded awesome. Well any thoughts on using multiple inputs simultaniously in cubase anyone? Thankyou so much for your help. |

Just click all the red dots (record enable) on the channels you want to record. I didn't understand what you were doing with sends in cubase... I was talking about the sends in patchmix. But as long as it works. Cubase and patchmix (to a lesser degree) are so complicated you never stop learning something when using them. |

Well in patchmix I just started creating strips.. I wanted six mono but it aint happening. So I settled with 4 plus one that says ASIO= 5 strips.I inserted a send in each strip and then went to the input and output window and just started tinkering and linking. I kept going back and forth between patch mix and Cubase and testing things out. WOW what I wanted to happen finaly happened, so far..Mute and solo functions with no bleed over signal !..and that happened when I started messing with sends in the inspector. (activating and adjusting level of each send to 0.00) I know alot about writing and arranging music and performing music and very little about PC recording...So I am glad this site is here for guys like me who tend to use what ever language we can to get a point accross and get help. last night I just started pushing buttons one more, time before I throw in the towel, and with a little thought in the back of my head that this forum is available, I just started taking chances and made some progress. So.. I don't know jack and I am thankful you guys try to help a new monkey like me the best way you can. Thanks Tacman7,Brandon and all. Oh I'll be right back....you can be sure of it.....

Well.. this still aint happening.. I have signal out of Emu and every input..but it does not show meter anywhere in Cubase except when I use the main input A... This is all well and good for what I have to lay down but when I want to record a drum set I am stuck.... I am not seeing anything about simultanious recording in the Cubase manual. But I will look again. Any Ideas on How to record with more thatn one input and actualy see it happening in Cubase? Thankyou. |

ALSO where do you get the drivers for .cpr files. My PC is not able to open tutorial files on the Cubase Essential disc and this is crucial for my brians not to boil out of my ears. This is the format that the Cubase Video tutorials are in and that shit aint happenin either.
