The first thing I would focus on is playback.

I'd set the Presonus Audiobox as the default player in Windows and attempt to play music through Windows Media Player. That's step one.

Step 2. Toss an audio file (an mp3 will work) into a track in Cubase. Press F4 and make sure your outputs are routed to your soundcard. Make sure the outputs of Cubased are working.

Step 3. Press F4, make sure the inputs setup. Create a new audio track. Select your #1 input of your soundcard as the input for the track. Arm the track. Press record.

I finally got my recordings started. Now i need help getting rid of the static. is it my headphones? or is it clipping, playing too loud? it seems like there is an awful lot of static in my recordings. i checked all connections and they seem tight

I downloaded the latency checker and am told that some devices will cause interference. how do i know which deices to quiet down. I only have one computer and it is necessary for me to use this computer to get on the internet right now. I will buy a new one in the future. Is it going to be a problem right now ?

Good question. I've encountered a utility that was supposed to kill everything non-essential to Windows. I can't remember what the name of it was. I intended to test it and write a review of it, but that never happened. I thought it had "kill" in the name.

That's why they invented the dual boot system.

Brandon when you're talking about the Presonus Audiobox being the default and then saying make sure your playbacks are routed through your soundcard. So should audio and digital in be set for the Audiobox and then the audio and midi out sent to the internal soundcard?

I'd use the Audiobox for everything.
