Default Guitar Rig problem

Hi all,
I recently installed guitar rig on my system (for Bass as opposed to guitar), but now Cubase won't start. If I uninstall guitar rig, cubase runs fine, but with it installed, Cubase will start to open, but when it's initialising guitar rig it just hangs. I've left it alone for 10 minutes or so and still nothing. Is it possible that the VST file(s) is corrupted, or is it just that my system doesn't have enough RAM to run the two together (other VSTs work OK - i.e. grooveagent, EZdrummer etc.).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tony

Sounds like the dll is corrupt (if you're on a PC). Try uninstalling GuitarRig and reinstalling it.

If that doesn't fix it, post the specs of your computer. Guitar Rig is not too bad on processor use, but certainly shouldn't be using any processor power until you actually use it. Just loading it with Cubase shouldn't cause any problems.

I've reinstalled it several times to no avail. My PC is an intel celeron 2.2GHz with 1GB RAM. I know it's not great, but it's all I've got at the moment. (payday soon...)

Where is GR installing its' VST folder? Cubase likes to have it at least within the root of the Cubase folder, if not in the VST plugins folder, specifically. If it isn't try moving it. If you could actually get Cubase to start you could add another folder as a VST browse path.
Is your version of GR standalone capable, or plug in only. If the former, can you start and GR with no problems?

Have you looked at either the Guitar Rig or Steinberg websites? What version of Cubase are you on? Do you have Windows set to give CPU preference to background services via system properties?

It runs fine in stand-alone mode, and the plug-in is in Steinbergs VST folder. Might try moving it anyway though and see what happens...

Let us know. I am betting if you move it away from the folders Cubase scans for VST's on start up, it will start fine. Then you could go into vst settings and add the new path to where it now is. Then, if it hangs, you have some other kind of problem, likely the GR dll itself, which does not affect standalone operation. If that is the case, see if they can get you an uncorrupted file.

I would think that if the dll isn't in a folder that Cubase already uses, it wouldn't find it, and wouldn't be a problem. Is the standalone installed in a standard location? It couldn't be that the dll is looking for its parent but can't find it??? I'm not really sure.

Your computer meets the minimum specs I believe, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Ok, I installed it again last night, and put the VST dll in a different folder. Now Cubase runs fine, but I don't know where to find the VST settings to give it the new path. I've looked throught the manuals for anything relating to VSTs but can't find out how to do this...

There is an Fkey to bring up the vst settings dialog - F11? Or from Devices menu, you should see Vst plugins options. From there, somewhere (Plug In Info option) you should see a list and be able to add a path to GR from there?

Found this just there a while ago, and added the folder with the GR dll to the list. When I restarted Cubase, it seized up again just like before. Looks like it's a corrupted file I'd say. Oh well... I'll see if I can get it replaced
