Default guitar plug in or guitar amp processor

what would be better?
external guitar amp processor(line 6 pod, behringer v-amp, etc.) or guitar amp processor plug-in (amplitube, guitar rig, etc.?)

No one can answer that for you, only your ears can tell you. Maybe you can download some demos of the software you are interested in.

One thing for certain, an external piece of gear won't put any extra load on your computer. The down side is that you can't undo a track you've recorded through hardware.

Another factor is latency. Since your tone probably (should) affect the way you play, you'll need to be monitoring in real time. That means you'll need low latency from your computer if you go the software route. I don't know if that's a factor people have difficulties with because personally, I like tweaking the hardware stuff.

I use Guitar Rig 3 and ALL the Amplitube stuff - it's a lot of fun!

I've not been impressed with too many of the external guitar amp processors. There was one Boss unit that actually impressed me (as suprising as that was).

I'd take a look at Revalver MKII and Revalver MKIII these have been the best I've heard. In fact, I plan on recording guitars direct into the computer first on my next recording and then either re-amp them or run them through Revalver MKIII.

I am enjoying the Line6 Gearbox gold as a plug in.
