Default Great tutorials, having a small hangup. Advice?

Howdy everybody, glad to join the community. I'm new to music editing in general, so I've been soaking up tutorials the last few days, but I ran into a small problem.

I'm using EWQLSO Gold Edition and Cubase 5. I'm not using any live instruments. Just VST instruments from the EWQLSO ported into Cubase.

Here's the problem: I can't get more than one instrument to play. I started a new MIDI track, added some violas in, and worked my magic for a bit. Once I was done with that I started a second MIDI track, added another instrument, and for some reason, that instrument doesn't play when I double-click into the MIDI music sheet itself.

    Here's what it looks like:

As you see, there's music in the first MIDI file. The first midi file is highlighted to show all the information on it.

    Here's the second:

    ErrorExampleTWO.PNG

As you can see, the second MIDI track is highlighted to show that the details are identical to the first. The only difference is I had loaded another iteration of the "EWQLSOGoldVST" intrument, because if I used the same one, then changed the instrument for MIDI TRACK 2, it would actually go back and change the instrument for MIDI TRACK 1 as well.

So, I'm stuck. When I double click into the MIDI TRACK 2 itself, I have the vertical keyboard on the side, but pressing the buttons doesn't produce a sound. I've tried loading different instruments within the second iteration of EWQLSOGoldVST, and none of them work. Clearly I'm missing something!

I appreciate your feedback, and I'm glad to be a part of the community now!

Not familiar with your VSTi but channels are important for some, not for others.

The second track is set to channel 2, try a new instance of the vsti or try changing the channel...

Or some VSTi's require you set a voice on a channel before it will sound.

Thank you. I'm going to experiment with adding in new VSTi's, but how do you "set a voice" on a channel? Is there a tutorial for that?

    Thanks again.

You can do that with the VSTi interface.

Just like you chose violas for a track, to choose the sound it makes, the voices.

It can also be done in the inspector on the left.

The drop down should show the voices.

I've had some VSTi's that only respond to ch 1 and some have a different voice for each midi ch.

Usually those will just be a plain piano on all the tracks until you change them.
I never finish a mix, just abandon it.
