Default Exporting Midi and Audio track in Cubase LE difficulties

Ok, this is lovely. I made a midi track in Cubase LE with the GM drum map. And then proceeded to record my Audio tracks. I'm not able to export both midi and audio tracks, only one or the other. Is it even possible to export both? Or would I be able to somehow convert the midi drums into and audio track or something? If anyone has experience with this, any help would be appreciated. By the way, programming Midi in Cubase sucks a lot. I'm hoping EZ drummer (like drums from hell, or Superior 2.0) wouldn't have these problems.

Just for the hell of it I uploaded the audio track I gave up on when I realized I didn't know what I was doing.

I am new to Cubase LE too, but I think I have read is that you want to export your midi file out to a wave, possibly once you know your drum track is the way you want it, and then lay down other audio tracks. Once done, you can export the whole shebang out to wav file. I just got EZ Drummer yesterday so I am going to find out first hand how cumbersome this is - I have heard that it's not as fully functional with LE as it is with the big boy versions of Cubase. If working with it becomes a pain in the ass or I find I can't do what I hope to do with it, I plan to upgrade to Cubase Studio in order to facilitate my needs.

Nah, I'm only able to export the Midi drum track as a midi file. Oh well. Let me know how Ez Drummer works out for you. With my experience in Hydrogen, you could export your drum patterns as Audio or Midi. But the windows version of hydrogen, when exported as a wav into Cubase, had a lot of pops and clicks. If you wouldn't mind experimenting with EZ drummer and let me your results.

Interesting that you would make such a claim. For years, Cubase and Logic have been considered the kings of MIDI production. I hope when you make claims like this in public it's because you have lots of experience with all kinds of different sequencers and not simply because you don't know how to use the tools adequately. It never fails. Some kid just getting started will read this thread and will just assume that the sequencer in Cubase sucks even though anyone who has used Pro Tools says that the Cubase sequencer is infinitely better.

I HIGHLY recommend you reading through the 2 MIDI guides in the Member's Only section. That'll save you some trouble.

MIDI is data. MIDI is the "captured performance". You can export that as a MIDI file or you can send it to a "machine" which will make noise with it (synths/samples). At that point, forget MIDI. It's out. (Assuming the MIDI data is doing exactly what you want). From that point on, we are now dealing with actual audio sound coming out of the synth/sampler. This audio is routed through the Cubase mixer just like the wav files you've recorded.

I've never used Cubase LE. In Cubase SX 3, you highlight the section you want to export and it renders down any audio making it's way to the 2bus (stereo bus) regardless if this audio was generated from a wav file or a MIDI synth.

I've used a few drum programs and also stuff like Reason 4.0. For anyone interested in recording with Cubase Le then I'd say go for it because it has pretty much all you'll need and is easy to use. But programming midi is such a pain in cubase le. For example, you have these tiny blocks to place your midi sound and also in between the blocks which makes it tough. I got fustrated with this very much because it was so easy to accidently select the wrong block etc. And then having to select the eraser instead of the arrow placer thing. I find programming drums with my Alesis SR-16 5x easier no doubt. And that says a lot because the Alesis isn't exaclty easy. If you want a midi sequencer, go with Reason 4.0 or something like it. I have never used pro tools hybrid or anything so I dunoo.

I'm still sore becuase the midi drums i spent so hard on seem like a waste now. I can record my audio tracks along with the midi, but when it comes time to export the song, the midi is never included. and I can't get the midi track in the song a an audio track so F Cubase Midi in the A.

Why don't you use the drum editor? You are using the regular editor meant for piano and such.

Does this mean you are giving up?

Someone else mentioned having this problem several months ago.....

Wait a minute! What MIDI synth/sample are you triggering?

Brandon, you are always a great help and I read the forum but I'm completely dumbfounded by this. It's okay tho. I'll just try out ez drummer. I'm sure you have experience with ez drummer. When you are using it, (not a plug in...something like Drum kit from hell superior) do you make your beats with that program itself and then export the drum song you've made as a wave or something? Then to be imported in to cubase etc..? I just want to be sure before I get the new Superior 2.0 drummer which I'm sure works about the same as previous toontrack drummers. Again, you've helped a lot lately and I enjoy posting forums on this site very much. By the way, I'm almost finished with a tune I've been working on with my alesis and should begin recording guitar tracks this morning. I'll upload it as soon as I've got the concept down.

Actually, I've never used it. I own the big boy DFH Superior, but not EZ Drummer.

I use the sequencer within Cubase for everything I do.

Did you see this?.....

As an update - you definitely cannot drag and drop from EZD to LE. So I ordered Cubase Studio 4 from Sweetwater. Since I am a student at night, I got the educational edition at 1/2 off. Sweet.
