Regarding your soundcard problem, first I'd recommend disabling your onboard soundcard (The SoundMax) in your BIOS. Next, check in windows control panel -> device manager -> sound, video, game controllers and see if the driver for the Audigy 2 is installed correctly (that there's no yellow exclamation mark icon over your Audigy 2). Perhaps the update messed something up here. Note, that if this was the case, you could probably expect all your sound not to work (i.e. outside of cubase also) If that still doesn't work, it's time to think about reinstalling things. You can fully uninstall the Audigy 2 and reinstall it only using the updated drivers. You can uninstall/reinstall Cubase SX3, you can even wipe windows and reinstall from there. I can't think of any reason why updated drivers would not be compatible with cubase, so I'm really leaning towards the driver update failed (did you reboot?) or that windows is confused by the availability of both onboard sound and the audigy 2. Is your SX3 up to date? |

not sure if my SX3 is up to date.... The driver update actually did fail. and yes, I rebooted. I even ran a system restore back to yesterday when things were fine. still nothing. The sound works fine on every other application except Cubase SX. Everything is checking out fine in device manager, but there's still no option to select the audigy 2 in my cubase output. I will try reinstalling the audigy 2 drivers and i'll let you know how that went. Thanks! |

Houston, we have audio! (I reinstalled the drivers and all is fine) So we're back to the out-of-sync problem: Here's what I see in "device setup" There's an option for "ASIO" multimedia driver. On the top of the window it reads "Input latency: 110.000 ms", but nowhere is the option to change this. I've tried clicking everything within this window, even the "control pannel" button. There must be a way to change it to 20ms, I'm just missing it.... |

Great! But that's not the ASIO driver you want. "ASIO Direct X.." and "ASIO Multimedia" drivers are, AFAIK, generic drivers that come with windows and have horrible latency which you cannot change. The selected ASIO driver should be listed in a pulldown menu where you can pick a different one (in the "VST audiobay" tab). If your Audigy 2 drivers are correctly installed, it should also list "Creative ASIO" and possibly a couple "SB Audigy 2 [ZS] B400" drivers as options. Choose Creative ASIO. Now click the "control panel" button (in the "creative asio" tab). This brings up a window to set the latency. Last edited by thegide; 11-09-2008 at 05:53 AM. |

Okay, I followed your instructions and set my driver to Creative ASIO and set the latency to 20ms, but now something crazy is happening. When I open up an old project in cubase, I get a message saying "Samplerate could not be set. This may be due to the sampleclock being set to external sync." Then I play the project, and the pitch of the entire project has been modulated about 1.5 (150 cents) keys too high, and everything is COMPLTELY out of sync by a about +- 5 seconds (opposed to before, when only certain tracks were out of sync by less than 1 second.) I'm thinking of reinstalling cubase at this point. Any idea what's going on? Thanks! |

The good news is you shouldn't have any problems with new projects/recordings set up the way you are now. But what about the old projects? The error message when opening old projects is probably because of a sample rate mismatch. (If your old project was 44.1khz, and Cubase is set at 48khz, its going to playback improperly with symptoms like you described). The Audigy 2 is fixed at 48khz, and with the Creative ASIO driver loaded, Cubase is trying to play everything at 48khz. It's possible that your previous ASIO driver allowed you to record at a different sample rate. Go to project -> project settings. Can you change the sample rate of the project? What is it currently set at? If you can select a different sample rate, but you get the sample rate error message again when doing so, see here: Disabling onboard sound in the BIOS If you can't select a different sample rate (it only shows 48khz), you can try this fix: Saving as a new project with new settings. Also here. Last edited by thegide; 11-09-2008 at 06:17 PM. |
