Hey I'm new to cubase and this site (Hey all ), just getting my bearings as regards learning how to manipulate cubase and am wondering if it's possible to use .wav files as the pre-configured drum sounds spewing out of cubase's machinery? it's Cubase 4 I'm using.I'm very used to Hydrogen and making drum tracks on that, eq'ing them with that program and then exporting to Audacity to record guitar, bass, piano and vocals over the pre-made drum track. Now however, I'm not using linux as I'd like to use cubase and I'd like to be able to make the same kind of drum tracks in cubase if not better. I'm only getting my bearing's so please be kind, and any extra info on configuring this set-up wouldn't go amiss with me. I have all the sounds in seperate 20-200kb files for bass, snare, hats and cymbals so just knowing exactly how to assign them is paramount. NOTE: Cubase is very difficult to understand, I've spent half a day just getting midi to work and am not even sure on how I did it, but the things you can do to a pre-made .wav drum track from hydrogen are really good. Cool program ![]() Please let me know, Gratias Vobis Ago Last edited by sponsoredwalk; 10-22-2009 at 07:43 PM. |

Did you just buy 4? Didn't go for 5? Yes, I've often missed the way I used to do something with a certain software. But change is good. You can use .wav files with a virtual sampler. Cubase 4 is a big package with a lot of things in there but no sampler, I don't think. They have a sample player, halion. If you had a program like extreme sample converter you might be able to build up a drum sound set for halion, or just get a full function sampler like emu emulator X2 or X3. But there is a lot of VSTi's that come with 4, I would be surprised if it doesn't have some decent drums in there somewhere. Lot's of people use EZdrummer or Addictive drums, 3rd party VSTi's. Cubase does take some getting used to and you never stop learning new ways to do things. It's always been worth the effort for me.

I've actually found a pretty ingenious solution. Now this does not solve the original question but it's pretty good all the same. I have downloaded virtualbox, an operating system emulator. Using this program I have installed Linux inside my windows partition. I downloaded Hydrogen ( the free drum software I used previously) and now I can make drum tracks on windows without logging off and relogging into Linux. That said the sounds require a lot of work to get sounding right and never sound as professional as I'd like. I've searched for samples all over the internet and still cannot find sufficient sounds equalling a rock drum kit in .wav form. I've even tried sampling snare's and bass drums from songs off albums but as you can guess it doesn't work. I'll assume there is a way to get the halion thing inside cubase to make drum tracks but even after reading the instruction booklets I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. Nah didn't go for 5, didn't think it would have some of the feature's I was looking for. I'm extremely happy with the fact that you can manipulate a waveform of a seperate track as the song is playing. Using audacity you had to do it without listening and was always up to chance. Still, any help is mucho appreciated. Please let me know, Gratias Vobis Ago Last edited by sponsoredwalk; 10-23-2009 at 12:59 PM. |

I would think you can buy a sample set of drums for halion. But try something first. Go to emu.com and download the free proteus VSTi. It's a rompler that has everything including some decent drums, may be, worth a try, good sounds in any case.

| Free Drum kit Wavs and Drum kit Sounds I got some great samples for hydrogen from this site today so I'm pretty happy. I downloaded the Proteus VX also and will give it a shot and see how it goes. Thanks a bunch, Vale |
