Cubase/Tascam - awful noise during playback/recording...

Hello All,
I'm using Cubase LE4 and a Tascam US-144 together. A lot of times I start hearing this awful 'feedback' kind of sound. It happens while recording during live monitoring and during playback.

The only good news is that the noise does not show up in the actual recording, but it's very annoying to hear when trying to record with other tracks.

I've heard of messing with the buffer settings some, but I'm not sure what that is or where they are at. That might not even be where I need to look. I've only been doing this for a few weeks now.

Any advise I can get from all of the experts in here to get rid of this sound would be greatly appreciated.

It is feedback. Turn off your monitors, and use headphones. disconnect your mic before playback to listen through your monitors.

Thanks for the reply Boo. I actually don't have monitors and are only using headphones. This sound occurs whether I have instruments plugged in or not.

I'm sure its a setting either on the Tascam or within Cubase - or both. Just not sure where.
