Cubase SX3 and virtual midi devices

Anyone have any ideas on the following issue i have.

I'm running cubase sx3 with a gig of ram on a p4 2400 chip

I'm also using a program called virtual midi keyboard, it turns the computer keyboard into a midi keyboard and works cool.

I have a signal into cubase and can patch the VST instruments no problem.
But if you want to record the signal you have to click onto midi keyboard and that stops cubase from recording alltogether.

is there a switch i can choose in settings to keep it recording after you have clicked onto the other programs and not have cubase stop recording.

Im an old user of SX 1.06 so its not that i dont know what im doing its just that cubase aint playing along.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm. Sometimes it is a pain that Cubase shuts down if it is not the center of attention. I just kind of accepted it.

You may find a solution or option, but I just wanted to point out that my Roland XP-10 keyboard (really crappy keyboard) can be snagged on Ebay for about $40.

So, I guess I wouldn't spend too much time on this problem since it can be solved (with a real midi keyboard) quite inexpensively.

Of course, if you are using a computer keyboard for your music stuff, I'm assuming that you aren't playing Beethoven. If that's the case, you may have good luck programming with a mouse.
