Default Cubase SX3 MIDI Tracks

Hello everyone,
I have cubase SX3, triton, firebox, sampletank.
I recently had to erase and install my HD and consequentely I had to re -install all of my software.
I have never had issues like this one but now i am baffled to what is the cause of my problem.

I have complete songs which sound come from the triton, in the past for a final mix i had to create a new audio track, solo the midi I wanted to record, engage the audio track solo it and record it. Now I can't seem to be able to do so anymore.....I can't even record the midi to an audio track by playing the triton alone. I know it has to do with settings...but i have looked everywhere and tried many different combinations of possibilities but still no audio rec. I can record audio straight from mic no problems.
Also on my audio track I can't select a midi input....all i get is right and left.
does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks
Paolom

This is correct. You can't input MIDI into an audio track. You need to create a MIDI track for this.

Start there and see if that fixes much of your problem.

Brandon,
Thanks....I know that but what I am trying to do, that I did in the past, is to record my midi track onto an audio one, and I can't.....it just doesn't.
thanks again

I'm pretty sure you've never recorded MIDI data onto an audio track or vice versa because it's impossible without an EXTREME code malfunction.

Do you mean you are trying to convert the audio output of a synth/sampler to a wav file? That you can do. Is this the problem? If so, what audio interface are you using? I'm assuming you are using your Triton as the synth. Can you verify that it is output signal? Can you verify that you have the correct routing for your audio interface by pressing F4 in Cubase?

Brandon,
Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for your help. I didn't say I wanted to record MIDI DATA onto an audio track. I didn't explain properly...I have a timeline with 16 MIDI tracks, recorded using the triton sound module, i need to mixdown hence turn these midi tracks into audio, one by one. I know I can do it if I use Sampletank's sound module, without recording them singularly, but I am using the triton.
thanks
Paolom

If the Triton had multiple outputs and you had an audio interface with multiple inputs you could do this quickly. However, I'm not sure about either in this case. This means you simply need to solo one MIDI track, arm an audio track within Cubase to record the audio outputs of the Triton and then hit record. You'll have to repeat this process for each and ever MIDI track you have.

Brandon, Thanks!
That is exactly how I did it in the past.....but now is not working.
I have Presonus Firebox, everything is connected....the midi in and outs, jacks going from the outs of the triton into the in of the firebox. I have tried to arm the audio track and record but nothing goes through. I have looked endlessly into settings etc. to to do so but everything i have tried has not produced the results I needed.
thanks
Paolo

Okay, first I would make sure that the MIDI data is getting back into the Triton. Then I'd make sure that the audio is actually leaving the Triton and going into the audio interface. I'd make sure the audio interface can accept incoming signals. I'm make sure the audio interface is set as the default thingy in Windows Control Panel. I'd make sure the audio interface's inputs are set as the primary inputs in Cubase.

Basically, you may want to check out this article:
